American broadcaster CBS has announced that NCIS has been renewed for season 21, which is scheduled to be released next year. A now cult series that did not have this name in its first year of broadcasting.

The American police television series NCIS: Special Investigations has been broadcast on CBS in the USA since September 23, 2003. In France, the series was started on M6 in 2004, migrated to W9 in 2012 and has been on 6th since 2021. The acronym NCIS defines the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (the naval criminal investigation service, in French), in which a team of field researchers and scientists works under the direction of Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. NCIS began as a spin-off of JAG
Created by Donald P. Bellisario, the series began as a spin-off of another famous fiction, JAG, for the CBS version. On the occasion of the series’ 20th anniversary, Mark Horowitz, director of JAG and executive producer of NCIS, recalled in a report by the Hollywood Reporter: “The series is originally presented with a kind of law and order. Order in the Navy.” . First there would be a crime and the NCIS agents (the Navy police officers) would investigate, and then the JAG people would come and try the case.” Donald P. Bellisario then suggested “two completely separate series.” CBS was enthusiastic about the project.

NCIS used to be called Navy NCIS
However, at that time, another famous series that triumphed on the same channel had a very similar name: CSI (in French “Les Experts”). “In that first year, it was understandable that the people at CSI weren’t very happy that we were starting a drama called NCIS, a forensic detective series. So it was decided to differentiate it, at least for this first year, it would be called Navy NCIS. NCIS retained the name Navy NCIS throughout the first season. After this first year of airing, NCIS returned to its original name and has already outpaced CSI by at least six seasons.
