Regardless of whether we are talking about unions affiliated to the CSN, the CSQ or the FTQ, the mediator’s findings remain the same: no extension of the mediation and no possibility of reaching an agreement, despite having been held for several months Mediation meeting.
The Autonomous Federation of Education (FAE) and the Union of Government Professionals of Quebec (SPGQ), which are not part of the common union front, find themselves in the same situation. The SPGQ openly speaks of an “admission of failure” for its 25,000 members.
Previously, the Interprofessional Health Federation (FIQ) also received its report, which resulted in its 80,000 members not being able to reach an agreement in mediation.
The publication of these mediation reports represents a kind of “mandatory step” before the unions concerned receive the right to strike.
Some will also have to hold general meetings in the coming weeks to advise their members about possible strike mandates. The common front uniting APTS, CSQ, CSN and FTQ must coordinate their possible pressure tactics.
