Netflix is expanding its relationship with comedian Shane Gillis. The streamer has acquired its six-episode scripted comedy series Tires, premiering May 23.

Gillis stars in the series and serves as writer, co-creator and executive producer.

Tires is about Will (Steven Gerben), the nervous and unqualified heir to a car repair chain, who tries to get his father's business back on track despite constant torture from his cousin and current employee Shane (Gillis).

Tires also stars Chris O'Connor, Kilah Fox and Stavros Halkias, with guest appearances from Andrew Schulz.

The series is directed by John McKeever. Gillis, Gerben and McKeever are the creators, writers and executive producers. Brandon James is executive producer of Rough House; Brian Stern and Kenneth Slotnick are executive producers for AGI Entertainment Media & Management. Becky Astphan is executive producer.

“Tires” is the second production from Gillis and McKeever's production company Dad Sick Productions, following Gillis' stand-up special “Beautiful Dogs.”

Netflix also ordered a new stand-up special from Gillis. His 2023 special “Beautiful Dogs” reached the Netflix top 10 in five countries and spent two weeks in the US top 10 list.

Additionally, Gillis will perform two live shows at the 2024 Netflix is a Joke Fest in Los Angeles: May 4th at the Greek Theater and May 8th at the Kia Forum.

Gillis will host the Feb. 24 episode of Saturday Night Live, his first return to SNL after being hired and subsequently fired from the late-night sketch show in 2019 for using racial slurs in the past. Gillis briefly mentioned his firing in his opening monologue Saturday.

“I am here,” he said in his monologue. “Most of you probably have no idea who I am. I actually got fired from this show a while ago. But, you know, please don't look that up. If you don't know who I am, please don't google this. That's good. Don’t worry about it.”

Gillis was named “Up-Next Comic” at Comedy Central's 2019 Clusterfest in San Francisco and “New Face” at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal. In 2021, Gillis released his debut comedy special “Shane Gillis: Live in Austin” on YouTube, which has been viewed over 23 million times.
