The fourth edition of the event, which aims to bring the work of scientists closer to society, saw 948 researchers from fifteen countries in the region take part in more than 450 activities.

On September 29th and 30th, Ibero-America experienced once again the exciting world of science through the most interesting and curious scientific works exhibited during the IVth edition of the Ibero-American Night of Researchers. This is a meeting that aims to recognize the dissemination of science with an Ibero-American seal and has been sponsored since 2021 by the Organization of Ibero-American Educational, Scientific and Cultural States (OEI) and the Madri+d Foundation.

Almost a thousand scientists from 250 institutions in the region were able to present the progress and results of their research to the community. This year, the focus was on the energy transition, the agricultural industry, sustainable development, education or technological development. In this edition, almost 4,000 people attended and/or participated in the events that took place simultaneously throughout Latin America.

This year it’s perfect highlight the participation of researchers from 16 Ibero-American countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic and Uruguay).), in more than 450 unprecedented activities which were developed virtually via streaming via the platform activated for this event, although some were attending in person for the first time.

An event that consolidates

Since its first edition in 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and with the participation of only three countries, Argentina, Ecuador and Uruguay, the Ibero-American Night of Researchers has continued to grow over the years with more countries and more activities that has consolidated this meeting as one of the largest scientific dissemination platforms in the Ibero-American region in Spanish and Portuguese.

From the 24 activities of the first edition, seen by more than 6,000 people, the following year there were more than 100 activities involving almost 80 institutions and almost 150 researchers from seven countries (Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador). , Guatemala, Mexico and Uruguay), the number tripled in the third edition of 2022, reaching a total of almost 300 activities and 450 scientists from more than 100 participating institutions.

For the fourth year in a row, the event included countries such as Bolivia and Cuba for the first time with a higher proportion of female researchers than male researchers – almost 500 compared to just over 350 male researchers, representing almost 60% – a milestone in gender representation at events of this type.
