Off to TikTok, Netflix and Candy Crush on mobile phones from French companies

France joins the US and UK in going a step further with its bans on company cell phones.

Following the likes of the US and Britain, France is now also banning the use of the Chinese video platform Tiktok on company cellphones by public sector employees. The government has decided to “prohibit the download and installation of leisure apps on official phones by state employees from now on”, the Public Service Ministry said on Friday.

“Leisure apps” do not provide a sufficient level of cybersecurity and data protection to be used on government devices, the agency said. Ministry circles said that Tiktok is one of the apps that are now banned, but so are gaming apps like Candy Crush and streaming apps like Netflix.
