Oscar-nominated star Tom Wilkinson, who starred in “The Full Monty,” “Batman Begins” and “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” dies at age 75

Two-time Oscar-nominated actor Tom Wilkinson has died at the age of 75, his family announced.

The British film star, best known for his role in “The Full Monty” as former steel mill foreman Gerald Cooper, died “suddenly” on Saturday.

Wilkinson won a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor in 1997 for the comedy about a group of laid-off Sheffield steelworkers who decide to form an all-male striptease group to make a living.

The film also won an Academy Award for Best Original Musical or Comedy Score and was nominated for three others, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Over the course of his illustrious career spanning nearly 50 years, Wilkinson also starred in the romantic comedy “Shakespeare in Love” (1998), Christopher Nolan's blockbuster “Batman Begins” (2005) and the action thriller “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” (2011).

His tragic death was confirmed in a statement shared by his agent on behalf of his family.

The statement said: “It is with great sadness that the family of Tom Wilkinson announces that he died suddenly at home on December 30th. His wife and family were with him.” “The family requests privacy at this time.”

Wilkinson, who was from Yorkshire before moving to Canada and then Cornwall as a child, is survived by his wife, actress Diana Hardcastle, and their two daughters Alice and Mollie.

The couple tied the knot in 1988 and played husband and wife in The Kennedys in 2011 and the film Good People in 2014.

Wilkinson was nominated for an Academy Award in 2001 for Lead Actor in “In The Bedroom” and in 2007 for Supporting Actor in “Michael Clayton.”

He appeared in a star-studded cast in the 2011 film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel alongside Dame Judi Dench, Dame Penelope Walton and Bill Nighy.

And most recently, he reunited with his The Full Monty co-stars Robert Carlyle and Mark Addy in the Disney+ series of the same name.

This is breaking news. Continue.
