Farewell to Pablo Lavandeira. Alianza Lima officially announced the departure of the 33-year-old footballer this Friday, June 23, after defending the club’s colors for a year and a half, during which time he won a national title in late 2022, meaning he lost the Season 2021 ended two-time championship for the blue and white. The midfielder will continue his career away from the capital and is now a new player for Melgar de Arequipa, a side he scored in the playoffs last season.

Through their social media, the intimate cast released a video with emotional words to Lavandeira, thanking him for the good times he gave to the people of Alianza Lima and for the achievements.

“Writing a farewell message is always bitter and today is even worse, but I choose to do it by thanking and remembering all the displays of affection you have given me across the country over this year and a half. For your respect from The day I arrived at the club and the same goes for my family. I carry all your love and the happy moments together in my heart. I will have you by my side for life. With my family we leave you a warm and eternal hug Thank you. Forever,” wrote the Uruguayan.

LIZ JONES Why do we ALWAYS have to compare Kate

LIZ JONES: Why do we ALWAYS have to compare Kate Middleton to Princess Diana? It’s sexist…

When the new Princess of Wales arrived at the Order of the Garter service in Windsor last week in a vintage Alessandra Rich polka dot tea dress, I knew it would be moments before she was once again considered Diana’s double.

Diana also wore polka dots!

The two Princesses of Wales have been declared fashion-forward twins from the moment they stepped into the limelight. Diana wore a sheer skirt by Laura Ashley. Kate Middleton walked the runway in a sheer black dress.

They were both awkward, shy and wide-eyed. They both bought ballet flats on the King’s Road, so the word is they could be twins!

When Catherine, Princess of Wales wore polka dots to the Garter Service in Windsor, there were immediate but misplaced comparisons to Diana

Just because Diana occasionally wore polka dots doesn't mean Kate is her doppelganger, says Liz Jones. Diana is pictured here at Ascot in 1988

Body language experts call Catherine a “perfect copy” of the late PoW. When she appeared in the tailored Erdem for Commonwealth Day, “the whole look was reminiscent of Diana,” a prominent hairstylist told Newsweek.

No! There are no profound and meaningful similarities in their style, nor should there be.

Yes, Diana and Catherine supported Catherine Walker, Jenny Packham and milliner Philip Treacy. Both wore a puff sleeve, a bit off the shoulder. However, this applies to all women who need to dress formally for certain occasions.

There are only a limited number of designers at the couture level. And to put it bluntly, Diana wasn’t a style icon, but Catherine definitely was. Not Di’s fault, because she grew up in the 80’s. She was often badly advised, not at all worldly.

Even the revenge dress he wore to the Serpentine the night Charles revealed his infidelity on TV was too short and paired with black opaque tights. Those looks should be a thing of the past and Catherine should be able to create her own path.

Because she is her own person.

Just because she could wear Diana’s brooch doesn’t mean she spends every waking moment thinking about her.

She doesn’t live in the past and what good would that do? William was once quoted as saying, “No one will try to follow in my mother’s footsteps and what she did was amazing.” It’s about creating your own future and destiny, and Kate will be in it do a very good job.”

Being myopic about what Catherine is wearing is tantamount to over-analysis of Love Island: the blue of her Erdem skirt suit has been likened to the color of the Commonwealth flag by one expert.

I imagine Catherine just wants to look beautiful and appropriate most days.

To endlessly dwell on Diana is not only unimaginative, it’s sexist. We don’t compare the cut of William’s suits to his father’s; In fact, let’s hope, as Julie Burchill suggested, that William has nothing to do with his father at all.

But with women? We do it all the time. Even comparing Meghan to the late Duchess of Windsor, although nothing could be further from the truth.

Ms Simpson was so fussy that she had her sheets ironed because they were crumpled during a nap. She was truly an ambassador for Dior, as the V&A exhibition proved.

It’s like women don’t have their own ideas that we always have to copy. That we’re living in the past. We need hands held.

Catherine is not like Diana. She radiates sunny optimism, stability and confidence. We used to be scared for Diana.

We thought: if she can’t be happy, then what do we hope for? We look at Catherine and all seems right with the world.

350 migrants on the boat that sank off Greece came from Pakistan. A village lost a generation of men. – CBS News

Islamabad — In the tiny, remote village of Bandli, high in the mountains of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, local officials distributed a somber list on Friday. On it are the names of eleven missing men. They are believed to be among hundreds of people crammed into an old fishing boat that sank thousands of miles from their homes off the coast of Greece by human traffickers last week as they tried to cross onto European soil.

It was one of the deadliest maritime disasters in Europe in decades.

The Bandli men were among an estimated 400 to 750 people from Pakistan, Egypt, Syria and other countries who were being carried on the fishing boat when it sank about 50 miles from the southern Greek city of Pylos on June 14.

An undated handout photo by the Hellenic Coast Guard shows migrants aboard a boat during a rescue operation before their boat capsized in the open sea off Greece, June 14, 2023. HELLENIC COAST GUARD/ Portal

Pakistan has been grappling with a total economic meltdown for months, prompting more and more people to risk their lives to reach Europe in search of a better future.

CBS News’ affiliate network, the BBC, sent a team from its Urdu channel World Service to Bundli, where they met Raja Anwar standing on the roof of his home, staring absently at the gate to his property.

His 38-year-old son, Abdul, sent word to Anwar that he would board the boat in Libya just before it departed on June 14.

“We had to take out a huge loan of 22 lakhs ($8,000) from our extended family to pay for his trip,” Anwar told the BBC.

He said his village had lost a young generation of men, including his son and four nephews, the youngest of whom, Owais Tariq, was just 19. All but one of the men are married with young children, he said.

The boat the would-be migrants were on had much less human capacity and when it became clear that it was capsizing, the captain reportedly abandoned the ship and abandoned them to their fate. Of the hundreds on the boat – which one group said may have included many children – only 104 were rescued. So far, the Greek authorities have recovered 82 bodies.

Most of the nationals of Pakistan were apparently on board the doomed ship. The country’s interior minister, Rana Sanaullah, told parliament on Friday that there were at least 350 Pakistanis on the boat, adding that a total of 281 families had contacted the government for help and information.

Another 193 Pakistani families have already had DNA tested to match the remains of victims found or to keep the file as so many people are still officially missing after the shipwreck.

Pakistan has arrested several suspected human traffickers and their agents, who have told authorities their ringleader is based in Libya, from where the boat set sail for the North African coast.

These people smugglers reportedly charged around $8,000 each to illegally ferry the Pakistani nationals from Libya across the Mediterranean to Europe — a dangerous sea crossing that has become increasingly busy as European nations have worked to seal off their land borders. The migrants were flown legally to Dubai, Egypt and directly to Libya, the authorities said.

An official investigation is underway to identify and arrest everyone else involved in people smuggling, Sanaullah said, adding that the Pakistani government is also working to recommend legislative changes to increase the likelihood of convictions in such cases.

The interior minister said not a single trafficker had been convicted in Pakistan for more than five years, adding that this was mainly because victims’ families agreed to a pardon in exchange for money.

Given Pakistan’s deep economic woes, it’s unclear what impact efforts to tackle irregular migration might have on the country.

Pakistanis are grappling with inflation at an almost unimaginable 38%. A rapidly depreciating currency and a current account deficit prompted the government to take drastic measures last year to avoid a sovereign default.

But these measures dealt a severe blow to domestic growth and jobs. The industrial sector, Pakistan’s economic engine, has shrunk by almost 3% in the current fiscal year according to preliminary data. This is an enormous burden for a country of over 230 million people and a generally young population that is pushing 2 million new people into the labor market every year.

Official unemployment figures have not been released for two years. But Hafeez Pasha, a former finance minister and economist known for his work on Pakistan’s labor issues, put the unemployment rate at a record “11-12%, conservative”.

After Egypt and Bangladesh, Pakistan currently has the highest number of nationals registered as arriving asylum seekers in Italy, European border protection agency Frontex told Portal.

This year through May, a record 4,971 Pakistanis attempted to cross the central Mediterranean in a single year, according to Frontex data since 2009.

Opportunities for legal migration are limited and this high number represents those who actually made it to Italy.

Many, like the hundreds of people who have now died on the boat off southern Greece, see no other choice but to try and negotiate deals through agents, who often present illegal routes as a faster, cheaper or even the only way to go to reach Europe, according to the Migrant Resource Centre, an EU-funded organization that provides information and advice to migrants.

Eleven desperate families in Bandli village on Friday clung to the hope that they would yet learn their loved ones were among the lucky ones rescued.

That hope was quickly fading, and pain was already showing on the faces of mothers, fathers and other relatives, who wondered if their loved ones were among the 12 Pakistani nationals Greek officials say were pulled out of the water alive became.

Carlos Ghosn Says 1B Lawsuit Against Nissan Is Appropriate

Carlos Ghosn Says $1B Lawsuit Against Nissan Is Appropriate – Honolulu Star-Advertiser

BEIRUT >> Carlos Ghosn said today that the $1 billion lawsuit he recently filed against Nissan and others is just the beginning of his fight.

The former Nissan CEO, in an interview with The Associated Press in Beirut, said that if he had been an American citizen and had filed a lawsuit in the United States, given his suffering, he “would not be asking for a billion dollars, but much more.” .

Ghosn ran Japanese automaker Nissan for two decades, saving it from near bankruptcy before being arrested in Japan in November 2018 for embezzlement, misusing company assets for personal gain and violating securities laws by not fully disclosing his compensation.

He fled Japan for Lebanon in December 2019, where he has lived ever since.

Ghosn is wanted in Japan and France. Since fleeing to Lebanon, Beirut has received three communications from Interpol based on arrest warrants issued against him by those countries. In France, he faces a series of legal challenges including tax evasion and suspected money laundering, fraud and misappropriation of company assets while at the helm of the Renault-Nissan alliance.

Lebanon has no extradition treaty with Japan and does not extradite its citizens.

Ghosn holds French, Brazilian and Lebanese citizenship.

Ghosn was held in solitary confinement in Japan for months without being allowed to speak to his wife. He said he fled the country fearing he would not have a chance at a fair trial.

Ghosn said it took him more than three years to file the lawsuit because he wanted it to be as solid as possible based on evidence, facts and (and) witnesses.” He added, “Our intention is to win it. So in order to win it, it has to be backed up by a lot of facts.” That’s why it took a lot of time.”

The date for the hearing of the case by the Lebanese Public Prosecutor’s Office is set for September 18.

Half of the money demanded from the 69-year-old Ghosn is intended for damages, the other half for compensation including salary, pension plans and stock options.

Ghosn is also demanding financial compensation from a Lebanon-based Nissan subsidiary, companies involved in the investigation leading up to his arrest and companies that obtained documents and computers from his homes.

When AP in Tokyo reached out to him for comment on the lawsuit, a Nissan official said, “We will not comment.”

Ghosn fled Japan after posting $14 million bail in a Hollywood-esque adventure. His unlikely escape – hidden in a box in the hold of a private jet bound for Turkey – embarrassed Japanese authorities and allowed him to evade trial.

However, Ghosn claims he was illegally ousted from the company.

“They don’t want companies to reconcile weaponizing the legal system to stage a coup where they can’t legally change management,” Ghosn said. “They’re using the legal system to get rid of management and set up new management, and that’s what Nissan did.”

Ghosn said he had no choice but to take action against Nissan regardless of the chances of winning his lawsuit.

“Honestly, I’m not very optimistic about the future of the company,” Ghosn said.

Ghosn said he believed in the Lebanese judicial system more than the Japanese one.

“You can defend yourself,” he said. He added: “I have experienced the Japanese legal system, the so-called judicial system, which, by the way, I criticize from my own experience.”

“The first time I was able to speak up and defend myself was when I arrived in Lebanon,” he said.

Ghosn claims to be the victim of a Nissan-led character assassination campaign, backed by the Japanese government and aided by accomplices in France.

Prosecutors in Japan have charged three Americans with helping Ghosn flee the country.

When asked if the lawsuit he’s filed means he wants to fight back, Ghosn said, “This is the beginning of the fight.”

Restaurant Healdsburg ranked among the best in the world

Restaurant Healdsburg ranked among the best in the world – Sonoma Magazine

SingleThread did it again.

For the third consecutive year, Healdsburg Restaurant has been named to the prestigious list of World’s 50 Best Restaurants, a curated collection of outstanding global dining experiences.

Sonoma County’s only three-Michelin-starred restaurant fell from 50th to 69th in 2023, landing on the expanded 51-100 list instead of the top 50 after peaking at 37th in 2021.

SingleThread also won in 2019. The awards were canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The annual list of the world’s best restaurants, published since 2002, is a snapshot of some of the best destinations for unique dining experiences and a barometer of global gastronomic trends, according to the organizers.

A jury of more than 1,000 international experts in the restaurant industry – food writers and critics, chefs, restaurateurs and well-travelled gourmets – select the restaurants for the list each year.

The awards were announced on June 20th in Valencia, Spain.

“It’s always an honor to be recognized among great restaurants around the world with whom we often have very close ties and work together regularly (we just had Odette #14 here in May to cook two evenings on SingleThread)” said Chef Kyle Connaughton, who runs the restaurant with his wife Katina.

“The restaurants on the list are so diverse and unique that we are very proud to represent Sonoma County with our focus on our farming and local artisans.”

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants praised the Japanese-inspired SingleThread on their website.

The organization said: “The popular culinary dream team of Chef Kyle Connaughton and Farmer Katina Connaughton operate this destination restaurant with rooms in the Sonoma wine region. Katina’s farm produce meets her husband’s signature Japanese cuisine in an 11-course, kaiseki-style meal that begins with a series of small bites and progresses through dishes like wagyu beef with shiso and potatoes – and, of course, a selection of fine ones Cry.

“If possible, stay in one of the luxurious rooms inspired by old Japanese ryokans, or inns, and enjoy a breakfast of cedar-roasted salmon, tamago, donabe rice, and other delicacies.”

Only two American restaurants made the top 50: New York’s Atomix at No. 8, followed by New York legend Le Bernardin at No. 44.

SingleThread ranked #98 ahead of the only other restaurant in the Bay Area, Season.

Over the five years, the list has moved away from its intense focus on Europe, America and Japan and now includes the top-rated restaurants in South America (Perus Central in Lima ranked first in 2023), Mexico City (Pujol was No. 13) and Southeast Asia (Singapore’s Odette was No. 14 and Bangkok’s Le Du was No. 15).

Mets trade Eduardo Escobar for Angels MLBcom

Mets trade Eduardo Escobar for Angels – MLB.com

PHILADELPHIA — The Mets, which already have the most expensive players in major league history, are now using Steve Cohen’s financial strength to add talent to the organization in more creative ways.

The Mets opened the trading season on Friday with a deal to expand pitching, sending veteran infielder Eduardo Escobar to the Angels for right-handed contenders Coleman Crow and Landon Marceaux. The Double-A pitchers, both of whom were in the top 20 on MLB Pipeline’s Angels prospect list, are helping to strengthen a farm system where high-level talent is few.

get meads: RHP Coleman Crow (Angels No. 19 contender), RHP Landon Marceaux (No. 20)
Get Angel: INF Eduardo Escobar, cash

The Mets essentially bought these pitchers from the Angels by agreeing to pay Escobar’s entire salary except for the major league minimum salary, which (by league rule) must be on the Los Angeles books. Escobar is earning $9.5 million this season with a $9 million option for 2024 that includes a $500,000 buyout. (The Mets will not choose that option if the Angels choose to exercise it.)

“Steve makes things like this possible because he’s willing to spend the money to get other prospects,” general manager Billy Eppler said in a phone interview. “I think that just shows there’s a commitment to our long-term build.”

Why did the Mets decide to trade Escobar now?
Though Escobar was a key part of the Mets roster last year with 101 wins, he lost most of his playing time to rookie Brett Baty. That made him expendable for a team that also has third basemen Luis Guillorme and Mark Vientos in the organization.

Rather than continue using Escobar in a part-time draft role, the Mets took action when the Angels called to inquire about corner infielders. The teams worked out concepts later this week before agreeing on Friday on a structure that would net the Mets both Crow and Marceaux in exchange for Escobar, who hit .236 with four homers in 40 games.

The deal is an example of the type of structure the Mets could use in future deals, using Cohen’s money to pay off contracts in exchange for better prospects. The idea is to accelerate the rebuilding of an agricultural system that is already much stronger than it was two to three years ago.

How good are the prospects the Mets have received?
Crow, 22, is a 2019 28th-round draft pick who broke through this season with a 1.88 ERA across four starts at Double-A Rocket City. Those numbers include 31 strikeouts and six walks in 24 innings. He will be the 11th-ranked candidate in the Mets system, according to the MLB pipeline.

Marceaux, 23, was selected in the third round of the 2021 draft. He posted a 4.88 ERA in 12 starts this season, but posted a 2.98 ERA last year, with the majority of that performance coming at High-A Tri-City. He becomes the 18th candidate in the New York system.

These two are among the starting players most likely to help the Mets next season, alongside Mike Vasil, Dominic Hamel and José Butto. Although the Mets have several high-ceilinged pitchers in their farm system, the bulk of them are still at the bottom tiers of the minor leagues. Crow and Marceaux help plug this hole.

What are the disadvantages of trading Escobar and who could replace it?
There is an emotional component to the loss of Escobar, a popular teammate who is hoping to become a US citizen later this month. But the Mets were willing to pay that price to improve their farming system.

“It’s tough,” said manager Buck Showalter, who alerted Escobar to the move during Friday’s 5-1 loss to the Phillies. “It’s a difficult conversation. … Everyone has great respect for him. I think what makes it a little more palatable is that it’s a good place for him, a good place for him to re-establish himself as the player we know he can be.”

Although fourth-ranked junior Ronny Mauricio is capable of playing at third base, the Mets have no plans to call him up until they’re ready to field him every day. On Friday night, Mets officials discussed two main options to replace Escobar: Vientos and Danny Mendick. The former has just been given to the Minors but may be recalled due to the trade. The latter is an offseason signing who scored at Friday’s Triple-A Syracuse and is on a six-game winning streak.

Does that mean the Mets will sell at close?
This deal does not indicate an imminent sell-off for the fourth-ranked Mets. Although the team could hand over more squad parts before the trading deadline on August 1, Eppler does not want to make this decision for several weeks. There’s still a scenario where the Mets start to play better and start looking for reinforcements by deadline, just as there’s a scenario where the Mets are making little buying or selling.

In any case, the Mets are aware that their game will determine Eppler’s strategy.

“Usually this is what happens: we don’t play well, people lose jobs,” said shortstop Francisco Lindor. “But I don’t see us as a team that will be sold out. I see us as a team that will keep up, that will be there. We are designed to be competitors.”

Most importantly, the Mets intend to continue taking steps to improve the overall health of their organization in 2024 and beyond.

After spending several weeks on the playground, Tombi became a student too! He was in a CE2 class and “the kids really liked him,” Özlem Pinar Ivascu, their teacher, confided to The Dodo.

However, the signal coming from the United States suggests that doubts are beginning to creep in in some parts of the Washington and bloc apparatuses Born. And it’s an issue particularly dear to Kiev, aware that the success of this summer campaign may affect not only eventual victory over the invading army, but also the maintenance of steady Western military and economic support for the Duration of the campaign war. Therefore from the Ukrainian capital, despite the Fog With war affecting all operations, senior officials are beginning to weigh up what is expected of this counteroffensive.

President Zelenskyy said in an interview with the BBC. sure of final victory but he also admitted that progress on the battlefield “appears to be”slower than expected“. Mykhailo’s commentary is harsher Podoliak, adviser to the head of the President’s Office, who said via his Twitter profile: “Real war is not a Hollywood blockbuster. “The counterattack is not a new season of a Netflix series” and that “don’t expect action and buy popcorn”. The message appears to be aimed at the very officials who leaked their doubts to CNN. Podolyak then emphasized in a very critical tone that “the time lost in convincing our partners to provide the necessary weapons can be seen in the Russian fortifications, deep defense lines and minefield systems built during this time”.

The same opinion is shared by Prime Minister Denys Schmyhal, who stated that the counteroffensive includes both offensive and defensive operations and that during the period the campaign was being prepared, Russia also took countermeasures to improve defenses in the occupied territories . The impression is that Ukraine are currently playing two different but closely related games. One on the battlefield, where Kiev, despite Russian resistance, still claims to recapture some villages in the east of the country and apparently has its sights on the Zaporizhia region, but also the Kherson region in the direction of Crimea. According to analysts, the attack on the Chongar Bridge, which connects the Black Sea peninsula with the rest of Ukraine, can be read as the prelude to an operation towards the southern front.

Instead, the other battle Zelenskyy fought is in the diplomatic arena, where the government wants to avoid giving in to the bloc supporting its war effort. The NATO summit on July 12-13 in Vilnius could already be a turning point. Kiev could try to produce tangible results in the weeks leading up to the summit, thereby presenting itself to the new NATO-Ukraine Council with the stuff needed to ensure maximum support from a West that has failed in its condemnation of the invasion yields but does not also appears to be exploring the alternatives to full-scale conflict.
