Singer Belgazou has passed away

Singer Belgazou has passed away

Singer Diane Primeau Guérin, better known as Belgazou, died of pancreatic cancer. “I want to share my pain with all my friends and all the former fans of my sister Belgazou, who has gone to a better world, as she so beautifully said,” her brother Jean-Claude Primeau shared on Facebook. She was 74 years old.

The singer of the popular song Talk About It – which was a huge hit in the ’80s – is no more. His family confirmed the news of his death on Monday.

The Lachine singer, who grew up in Montreal’s Saint-Henri neighborhood, is best known for having a meteoric start with her album Belgazou, after the band formed in 1982.

She then released two records under her stage name (Fly 1984 and Where goes life 1987) and a final under her real name (Diane Guérin) entitled J’t’aime encore in 1992.

The artist also released a children’s album, Le rêve enchanté, in 2000 and embarked on a four-year tour with this toddler show, which will be his last. She retired at the age of 55 to live on the edge of a lake in the Lanaudière region.

“Goodbye Madame Belgazou,” host Alex Perron tweeted while sharing a YouTube video of his hit song Talk About It, broadcast live in 1983.

The singer also had some success in Belgium and France. His stage name Belgazou means “beautiful language” in southern France.

His career in brief

  • Before starting her career under the name Belgazou, Diane Guérin was part of the Starmania adventure for a year in a supporting role.
  • In her early days she sang successfully with Christian Montmarquette, Les 2 Pierrots and Hotel Nelson in Montreal.
  • Already in 1969 she had a small role in the youth series Sol et Gobelet.
  • She worked as an extra in Réjean Tremblay’s Réseaux series.
  • Talk About It was the last song recorded during the sessions for the album En Following the Fanfare.
  • In 1972 she received an important role in the film Les colombes by Jean-Claude Lord.

Up to 70% of US hospitals will lose money in 2022

A legendary American hospital is under extreme financial pressure and is reporting a loss of almost $1 billion in just three months – a sign of how badly many hospitals are in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mass General Brigham Hospital (MGH) in Boston, Massachusetts, which posted losses of $949 million for the third quarter of fiscal 2022 ended in June. The hospital points to rising labor costs and staff shortages for the unprecedented losses.

Hospitals across the United States are bleeding money, and many are sounding the alarm that they may not be able to continue operating unless skyrocketing costs and labor shortages are addressed in the coming months.

A report released last week by the American Hospital Association (AHA) and KaufmanHall suggests that up to 70 percent of America’s hospitals could end 2022 with a loss of money. The main reason is rising labor costs. Many have also struggled to generate revenue as labor shortages have reduced their capacity to deliver services.

American hospitals have struggled throughout the pandemic. Many surgeries have been postponed due to lockdowns and Covid restrictions. The pandemic also led to a brain drain of medical workers, particularly in nursing, leaving many to rely on more expensive contract workers to fill positions. As a result, even more nurses left their full-time positions for contract positions, exacerbating the situation.

More than half of hospitals are projected to lose money in 2022, with worst-case scenarios showing nearly 70% losing money throughout the year

Mass General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, reported quarterly losses of nearly $1 billion in the third quarter of fiscal 2022

“Hospitals will lose billions of dollars in 2022,” said Dr. Therese Fitzpatrick, senior vice president at KaufmanHall, during a press conference

“It will be the worst year since the pandemic began.”

The report, released on Thursday, found that healthcare margins have fallen sharply since 2019 – the last year before the pandemic – and showed little sign of recovery.

In the first half of 2022, margins fell 102 percent from pre-pandemic levels, meaning hospitals began losing money on the care provided.

One of the biggest victims of this phenomenon was MGH. The legendary US hospital posted a loss of nearly $1 billion between April and June 2022.

The hospital blamed rising staffing costs and shortages in many positions for soaring its costs and eroding its profit margins.

“As these challenges are unlikely to abate in the near future, we must continue, and even accelerate, our efforts to improve efficiencies, deliver care in the most appropriate and convenient environments, and integrate the capabilities of payers and providers to To improve affordability for individuals and employers.” Niyum Gandhi, the hospital’s CFO, said in a press release.

The hospital performs around 20,000 surgeries each year and serves much of the greater Boston area. It is also a leading research institution, often collaborating with nearby Harvard University and Brigham and Women’s Hospital for pioneering studies.

The hospital is now under pressure from regulators to get its finances in order and has been forced to submit a plan to the state to improve its situation.

However, in the worst-case projections, margins at American hospitals will fall 133 percent for the full year. This means hospitals will lose a third of the money they spend on care in the US

“It doesn’t take a mathematician to know that we’re in pain — in fact, we bleed red,” Peggy Abbot, CEO of Ouachita County Medical Center in Camden, Arkansas, told Fierce HealthCare.

In the first half of the year, 52 percent of US hospitals were operating in the red, Kauffman found. This number is expected to remain constant in the second half of the year, but the most pessimistic forecasts put it at 68 percent.

The main source of these financial problems is the rapidly increasing cost of labor. The Kauffman report finds that hospitals will spend $86 billion more on staff in 2022 than in 2021.

Almost $30 billion of that is contract labor. These temporary workers are often hired to fill bottlenecks as they arise. However, they cost significantly more per capita.

During Covid, many healthcare workers gave up their full-time jobs to seek more lucrative contract jobs.

As a result of the loss of full-time staff, many hospitals have been forced to spend even more on temporary workers.

The AHA warns that smaller, rural hospitals will be hit hardest by these rising costs and collapsing margins.

Even before Covid, many living in rural areas faced transport barriers to care for so many hours of life from the nearest full-service hospital. Even transport to an emergency room or emergency care can take a long time.

The remaining rural hospitals likely have less cash to burn than a large facility like MGH and could be forced to close because of those negative margins.

This would add to the already long transport times to care and likely result in preventable deaths, the AHA warns.

Atlanta burger chain Slutty Vegan opens in Fort Greene – Eater NY

Slutty Vegan, a vegan burger chain with a cult following, opened in Brooklyn this weekend with a block party that shut down a section of Fort Greene and had New Yorkers as far away as the Bronx waiting in seemingly endless lines for vegan patties and fries , and sweet potato pie. “I didn’t know there were so many vegans in Brooklyn,” someone passing by the scene called out to a friend over the live DJ.

Located at 690 Fulton Street on South Portland Avenue, the restaurant is the vegan chain’s seventh location and only its second outside of Georgia. (The first is in Birmingham, Alabama). In Atlanta, where Slutty Vegan started as a delivery company in 2018, the brand is known for its celebrity followers — Shaquille O’Neil and Tyler Perry are both outspoken fans — and long lines. In Brooklyn, that reputation apparently predated itself, as fans camped out hours before the lunchtime opening to get their first taste of these vegan burgers and fries.

Jade Gardener, who was first in line on Sunday, arrived at the restaurant in a folding chair just before 8 a.m. “I thought I’d be late,” she said after watching videos online of other Slutty Vegan openings. “People get there very early at their other locations.” Their efforts were rewarded with a giant yellow “Lucky Slut Ticket” worth a free meal from the new restaurant. She planned to cash in on a One Night Stand, the chain’s most popular burger, which is served with vegan bacon, cheese and caramelized onions on a Hawaiian bun.

This yellow ticket is worth a free meal at the restaurant.

The crowd was mostly black, and those who stood outside Slutty Vegan Sunday morning said the restaurant was more than just meatless burgers, of which New York City already has plenty. “We’re here to show support and love for this black-owned company,” said Dayja Ferreira, who traveled to Fort Greene from the Bronx for the opening. She’s been following Slutty Vegan online for years, commenting on his Instagram posts, like countless others, and begging for a location in New York.

Founder Pinky Cole says she settled in Fort Greene after being approached by the owners of Broccoli Bar, a vegan restaurant that previously operated in the corner and was about to close. “I’m very careful about where I put Slutty Vegans,” she says. “Either it has to be a vegan food desert, an area that’s in the heart of gentrification, or an area that’s not as appealing to developers.” The Fulton Street restaurant — in a neighborhood with few vegan restaurants but lots of new high-rise developments — ticked some of those boxes.

It’s the first of a handful of new locations planned for the growing vegan food brand, including another to open in Harlem. The restaurant chain earlier this year announced plans for 20 more locations by the end of 2023 after receiving $25 million in funding from an investor group that includes Danny Meyer’s Enlightened Hospitality Investments.

As for the name of the restaurant? “If I called this concept Pinky’s Vegan, how many people do you think would have joined?” Cole jokes. “We do the vegan lifestyle in a different way. I am not telling you that you are a bad person if you eat meat. There are no rules for this. We just want you to have a good time.”

Uneeda Lebby, who stood at the end of a line that stretched to Greene Street just before noon, is on board with the unconventional names printed on T-shirts and shouted from megaphones. When asked what she wanted to order, she said she had her sights set on a burger with caramelized onions, pickles and sauce called Fussy Hussy. “Isn’t it funny to say?” She says.

Arriving fashionably late in Fort Greene at around 12:30pm, Cole descended the steps of a black Mercedes-Benz Sprinter to a group of fans and flashing cameras awaiting their arrival. A few minutes later she was standing behind a red opening ribbon. “Slutty Vegan isn’t an Atlanta love story anymore,” she told the crowd. “Slutty Vegan is a household name.”

She cut the ribbon, danced around the kitchen, and staffers who’d traveled from Atlanta to Brooklyn for the grand opening hit the grills, handing out burgers, fries and sweet potato pies in paper bags dripping with vegan grease until they were done in five hours later sold out. This is what the opening looked like.

Princess Haya makes rare public appearance to attend Queens Engagement

Princess Haya makes rare public appearance to attend Queen’s Engagement Party at Windsor Castle

Princess Haya bint Hussein is making a rare public appearance to attend a funeral service for the Queen in Windsor.

The Princess arrived to pay her respects to the late monarch with her brother Prince Hassan bin Talal of Jordan ahead of this afternoon’s service at St George’s Chapel.

It came a day after her ex-husband, Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum, paid a visit to Buckingham Palace to meet King Charles at a reception on the eve of the Queen’s funeral.

There were concerns that Sheikh Mohammed might come into contact with Prince Hassan at yesterday’s reception, a potentially awkward encounter following Princess Haya’s divorce from the Sheikh.

The sheikh, a horseracing-loving friend of the royal family and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, has been accused by one of his own daughters of holding her hostage against her will, the Supreme Court heard. He has consistently denied the allegations.

Last year, the High Court in London awarded the princess sole custody of the two children she had with Sheikh Mohammed after a long divorce battle.

She was also awarded £554million – the biggest ever divorce settlement in the UK – which will be mostly spent on keeping her two children safe, Jalila, 14, and Zayed, 9.

She has since put down roots in the English countryside and has been a friend of the Queen, with the couple sharing a love of horses and equestrianism.

She was one of many close friends of Her Majesty who attended the funeral service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor this afternoon, where the Queen was finally buried after more than a week of national mourning.

Princess Haya did not attend the Queen’s funeral at Westminster Abbey as her half-brother King Abdullah II represented the Jordanian nation along with his wife Queen Rania

Earlier in the day, while the Princess attended the dedication ceremony, she did not attend the Queen’s funeral at Westminster Abbey as her half-brother King Abdullah II represented Jordan with his wife Queen Rania.

Earlier this week, Princess Haya Moving spoke about how she was comforted by the Queen after her mother died in a helicopter crash in 1977, and after the death of her father King Hussein in 1999.

A few days ago, Princess Haya told Portal outside her country house: “I think we will never see such a queen (again) and we never have before.”

“I remember that after the death of my late father and mother, Her Majesty was kind enough to have special words for my younger brother and I and to make sure we are okay.

“For me, as for everyone else, she was a common thread in almost every aspect of our lives. I don’t think there was a decision or a time when I didn’t think, “What would Her Majesty do?” or “What would Her Majesty say?”.

“She was, I think, for all walks of life and for so many people around the world… an example and an inspiration to look up to. And I did it, as did so many others.”

The princess, who was educated in England and attended Oxford University at a young age, filed for divorce from Sheikh Mohammed in 2019.

Princess Haya fled Dubai for the UK in 2019 fearing for her safety and successfully argued in court that her children were at risk of being kidnapped by their father after she claimed in court that he had forcibly returned Princesses Latifa and Shamsa, when trying to flee the United Arab Emirates. These claims have been denied by her now ex-husband.

Princess Latifa was kidnapped from a yacht off the coast of India in 2017 and Princess Shamsa was kidnapped in Cambridge and returned to Dubai in 2000.

Ahead of the Queen’s funeral yesterday, Princess Latifa’s best friend said Sheikh Mohammed should not have been invited.

Tiina Jauhiainen told Web that the ruler of Dubai needs to be snubbed by Buckingham Palace and the UK government along with Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman Al Saud.

Ms Jauhiainen told Web: “I don’t think a person of his reputation should be invited to the Queen’s funeral.

“I hope we won’t see MBS [what the Crown Prince is colloquially known as] either.’

In their divorce proceedings, the court ordered Sheikh Mohammed to pay his ex-wife £554million, including a £251million lump sum payment.

The prince is also required to provide a £290m HSBC bank guarantee for his children, which will cover annual child support of £11m, as well as ongoing security costs for them as adults, £3m and £3m.

The princess’s lawyers had argued that strict security measures were needed to protect her and the children from her ex-husband.

Mr Justice Moor said in a 73-page judgment that the princess and her two young children were at “clear and pervasive risk” and that Sheikh Mohammed was the “principal threat to them”.

The ruling revealed how Princess Haya claimed she paid £7million to “extortionists” on her security staff to keep her affair with her British bodyguard Russell Flowers a secret, leading to the breakdown of her marriage.

Shamsa Princess Latifa

The billionaire ruler of Dubai was previously found after weighing the probabilities of kidnapping two of his adult daughters, Shamsa (left) and Latifa (right).

While the award allows the princess to continue living the life of luxury she enjoyed as the sheikh’s sixth wife, it’s £900million less than her lawyers originally asked for.

Mr Justice Moor wrote in his ruling: “There will remain a clear and present risk to HRH for the rest of her life, whether from HH (her ex) or just the normal terrorist and other threats faced by the Princess in her position .’

It was also found that Sheikh Mohammed had his agents “hack” the phones of his ex-wife and her lawyers, including Baroness Fiona Shackleton.
