“The central cause of the Jan. 6 attack was one man, former President Donald Trump, who was followed by many others,” said the report, prepared by the House committee investigating what happened that day.

An 800-page report, due to be released in the coming hours by US House investigators, will conclude that then-President Donald Trump was involved in a criminal organization to reverse his defeat in the 2020 election, and prompted his supporters to storm Capitol Hill with false claims of widespread voter fraud.
The Jan. 6, 2021, attack by Trump supporters threatened democracy with “appalling” brutality to law enforcement and “endangered the lives of US lawmakers,” according to the report’s summary.
“The central cause of the Jan. 6 attack was one man, former President Donald Trump, who was followed by many others,” said the report from the House Committee investigating what happened on that date in 2021. “None of the events of January 6th would have happened if he hadn’t been there.”
The eight chapters of the commission’s report will reflect the nine hearings held this year, presenting evidence from more than 1,000 private interviews and millions of pages of documents. They will tell the story of Trump’s unprecedented campaign to reverse his defeat and his campaign to pressure state officials, the Justice Department, members of Congress and his own vice president to change the election results.
A summary of the 154-page report released Monday detailed how Trump, a Republican, reinforced false claims on social media and at public events, encouraging his supporters to travel to Washington and protest Democrat Joe Biden’s election victory. And how he told them to “fight like hell” at a large rally outside the White House on the morning of January 6, then did nothing to stop the violence as his supporters beat up cops, stormed the Capitol, and forced the lawmakers to flee for their lives.
The commission concludes that it was a “conspiracy of several parties”.
The long and damning report concludes four years of a Democratic majority in the House of Representatives, which has spent much time and energy investigating Trump and will hand power to Republicans in two weeks.
