A draft resolution submitted to this body for deliberation by the left-wing coalition on Thursday argues the former official’s poor performance of his duties, subterfuge, obstruction of criminal investigations, complicity and other criminal acts.
The initiative, presented to Senate President Óscar Salomón, primarily calls out to Quiñónez for his lack of impetus in response to grievances previously raised by parliamentarians, particularly against former President Horacio Cartes, lawmaker for FG Jorge Querey said.
Defenders for the prosecution, who are proposing that it be declared “of national interest,” recalled the former officer’s inaction on crimes included in a report by the bicameral commission of inquiry into money laundering and other related crimes.
The document condemns Quiñónez’s complicity or omission in front of charges considered emblematic, such as that of money-changer Darío Messer, also linked to Cartes, and other charges against the current ruling Colorado Party candidate, Santiago Peña.
On the agenda of Monday’s session of the Legislature was a speech by the new Attorney General, Emiliano Rolón, on the measures this department is taking in the face of the irregularities inherited from its predecessor.
The administrative issue handled by the lawyer before this instance includes questions from parliamentarians on recruitment and promotions signed by the former head of the state ministry, ABC Color newspaper adds.

The lawyer and former judge stressed his willingness to overrule these and other decisions made by Quiñónez during his term of office, which expires this March according to the law, having exercised them following his appointment during the Cartes government (2013-2018).
The new tax agency stressed the need to transform the prosecutor’s office into an autonomous and controllable entity, whose previous chief of the prosecutor’s office was subpoenaed by Congress and faced impeachment four times for “inadequate discharge of duty.”
