After putting their house up for sale in July 2022, Carl and Ruth Jackson invested some of the £535,000 they earned into buying a motorhome with the aim of traveling across continental Europe. After picking up their three children Maisie (11 years old), Pippa (10 years old) and Marley (5 years old) from school, the family set off on the long journey. Visited 28 countries “without regret,” as parents admit, believing that their children learned more on the trips than at school.

Without a specific destination, the five set off without reservations: France, Belgium, Scandinavia, Lapland, Finland, Greece and Italy, before also arriving in Australia and Bali. “We followed our noses. We had a dream to show our children more of the world and show that the real world is out there. We want our children to be more open-minded. “Sometimes the media and the news can be boring and negative, we wanted to show them that you can go out and have great experiences,” said Carl, the children’s father.

Children who were still taught remotely, also thanks to the help of the school they attended before the big trip. “The children enjoyed every minute. They loved meeting different people and trying all kinds of foods. They saw diversity in all forms, including time.”

After spending much of the year traveling, the Jacksons returned home last month.
