Pig carcasses hung on flyovers in Montreal

Pig carcasses hanging from overpasses were discovered early Thursday morning at various locations in Montreal. Hateful gesture or very bad joke? The police are currently swimming in a conundrum.

All cases involved frozen pig carcasses. The three events occurred within a radius of 1,500 meters in the municipality of Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie.

It was a call from a witness who first alerted police around 3:30 a.m. after seeing a pig carcass hanging from the viaduct on Rue des Carrières, which overlooks Avenue Christophe-Colomb.

About 90 minutes later, 700 meters away, another frozen pig was discovered by patrols hanging from the viaduct on Rue des Carrières, near Avenue Papineau.

About 30 minutes later, a third pig carcass was found hanging from an overpass at the corner of Rue Dandurand and Avenue De Lorimier.

For now, the Montreal Police Department refuses to come up with a theory to explain these three sordid events.

“An investigation has been launched on our side. The reason for these actions remains unknown,” said SPVM spokeswoman Caroline Chèvrefils.

Surveillance cameras installed in the area will no doubt be viewed by police over the next few hours in an attempt to solve the mystery of this case.
