The Placebo concert in Stupinigi had provoked various reactions in the political world and several representatives had asked not to pay the group the seal of approval for that evening, while others had asked for the cancellation of the other concerts planned in Italy. But what had Brian Molko said? To the applause of the fans, he had reacted violently to the fact that the Italian Prime Minister had addressed him with terms such as “piece of M…, fascist, racist” and then closed the curtain with a “vaff…”. This was immediately noticed by the carabinieri present, who reported the case to the public prosecutor of the Piedmontese capital.
Placebo’s “scandalous” precedents It’s not the first time Brian Molko has stood out in Italy for some of his over-the-top releases. In 2001, with Placebo guests at the Sanremo Festival, Molko smashed the guitar on the amp at the end of her performance. A common (and indeed fan-lauded) gesture at a concert, seen by the proud Ariston audience as a header, they began chanting the chorus of “stupid fool” outrageously.
