Nowadays, technology in vehicles is becoming more and more important. They come in different forms, from driving aids to infotainment systems, which above all contain more and more functionalities. In this sense, the number of automobile manufacturers present is up CES (Consumer Electronics Trade Show) Showcasing the latest technologies in their vehicles has become more important in recent years. So, Google introduces new features that are now offered in the brand's vehicles Polaris through its integrated operating system.
Added navigation features
Integrated navigation systems are not new. They have been part of the automotive world for several years. However, they have evolved significantly over time. Additionally, Google will be showcasing its new route planning system in a Polestar 3 at its booth at CES 2024. This new system allows a planned route to be sent from a mobile device to the car. This will be compatible with the Google Maps application found on Android and iOS devices. The driver can then prepare the route in the phone application and send it to the system integrated in the Polestar vehicle. It's important to distinguish that this doesn't work as a simple projection on the screen like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto do.
According to the manufacturer, this new feature will already be used in the Polestar 2. It will also be offered in the soon-to-be-launched Polestar 3 and 4.
Surfing the internet on board
When the Polestar 2 was launched for the 2021 model year, the manufacturer had already integrated the Vivaldi web browser. However, today the manufacturer announced the deployment of Google Chrome integration in the Polestar 2 in beta version. However, please note that online navigation through the application is only available when the vehicle is parked. This restriction was introduced to avoid driver distraction while driving.
With the automotive world constantly evolving, it wouldn't be surprising to see an increase in announcements of this type from other automakers in the coming months or years. Recall that GM announced that it would gradually remove the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems from its future vehicles to focus exclusively on the integrated Google system.
