US President Joe Biden received bad news this Sunday (24): according to a survey conducted jointly by the television channel ABC News and the American newspaper Washington Post, if the elections for the White House were to take place today, former President Donald Trump would be the former president Win race with 52% of the vote, while Biden would have 42%.
Criticisms of Biden’s work include the economy and immigration issues, which have led to record lows in the Democratic politician’s popularity. 44% of respondents said their financial situation had worsened under Biden’s presidency, the highest level in these surveys since 1986.
Only 37% of respondents approve of his performance, while 56% disapprove. Even fewer people approve of Biden’s performance on the economy, 30%. In addition, three quarters of survey participants said he was too old for another term, while Donald Trump was viewed more positively in retrospect.
On the issue of immigration at the US border with Mexico, Biden did even worse, with 23% approval.

Trump, for his part, has subsequently improved. Currently, 48% say they approve of the businessman’s performance during his time in office, which is his peak as president.
Notably, 62% of Democrats and Democraticleaning independents say the party should choose someone other than Biden as its nominee in 2024; only a third support Biden.
Several factors could be at play, including Biden’s low performance ratings, the level of economic discontent, the immigration crisis and questions about his age. However, Trump used his criminal charges to bolster his base with allegations of political persecution.
The survey used the proven ABC/Post survey method. Demographic results and party preferences are typical.
