Civil Police are investigating the death of Portela composer Roberto de Aquino Leite, known as Beto Aquino. He was found dead yesterday afternoon at his home in Copacabana, south of Rio de Janeiro (RJ).
According to PCERJ, the IML report indicated that Roberto’s cause of death was myocardial infarction. The civil police are also investigating a possible theft in Roberto’s apartment.
searched by UOL, Military Police reported that agents from the 19th BPM (Copacabana) were called to an incident where a body was found in an apartment on Rua Paula Freitas. According to the command of the unit, the military found the body of an already dead man. An expert opinion was drawn up on the property and witnesses were heard.
Portela mourned the composer on social networks. The school highlighted that Beto was the champion of the school’s samba plotting competition at the 2019 (Clara Nunes) and 2020 (Guajupiá) carnivals.
“The President of Portela, Fábio Pavão, the VicePresident, Junior Escafura, the President of the Composers’ Piano Ary do Cavaco, Serginho Procópio, as well as the entire management of the school deeply regret the death of the composer and show solidarity with his family and friends of the artist”, it says in the statement.
