President of Syria begins visit to Russia

During the ceremony, Assad laid a wreath of dark scarlet roses, framed by a ribbon in the colors of the Syrian flag, while the exemplary military band of the Kremlin’s Honor Guard played.

The Syrian head of state arrived in Moscow on Tuesday evening with a delegation of politicians and military officials and landed at Vnukovo airport.

The reception was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister and Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov, Syrian Ambassador to Moscow Bashar Jaafari and Russian Diplomatic Representative in Syria Alexander Yefimov.

As part of his official visit, the visiting president plans to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin to reaffirm friendly and strategic ties between the two states, official sources say.

According to the Kremlin press service, the topics of the high-level exchange could draw attention to the continuation of Syrian conversions, trade relations, the military alliance and security.

Putin and Assad previously met in September 2021 when the Syrian President visited Moscow.
