Prince Harry reveals Queen’s advice to Meghan Markle

Prince Harry has revealed how his wife Meghan “bonded” with his late grandmother the Queen by telling her how badly she wanted to be a mother.

The sweet moment came during Meghan’s first joint engagement to the late monarch, during which they traveled to Cheshire on June 14, 2018, the Duke of Sussex reported in his explosive memoir Spare.

The Duchess of Sussex came home and told Harry that she and the Queen had strengthened their bond thanks to their love of dogs and that she had told the monarch she wanted to be a mother.

Harry says his grandmother told Meghan the best way to induce labor is to take a “bumpy car ride”.

Writing about Meghan’s first engagement to the Queen, Harry says his wife “glowed” when she returned from the trip and told him: “We’ve bonded.

“We were talking about how badly I wanted to be a mom and she told me the best way to induce labor is on a good, bumpy ride! I told her I would remember when the time came,” he quoted Meghan as saying in the book.

The conversation took place a month after Harry and Meghan’s wedding and marked a moment of renewed hope for the couple, Harry admits in the book.

Five months later, the couple announced they were expecting their first child, first for the King and Prince of Wales and then for the rest of the family during a champagne reception for Princess Eugenie’s wedding in October 2018.

Their son Archie was born at Portland Hospital on May 6, 2019, and Harry said he doesn’t remember if the couple tried his grandmother’s recommended method of inducing labor with a bumpy ride.

In contrast, Harry said the couple felt “more secure and calm” as they headed to Lilibet’s delivery two years later.

The Duke of Sussex made the intimate revelations in his memoir, which was released today.

The King has also made several television appearances to promote the book ahead of its release, including on ITV in the UK and CBS in the US.

Last night, Harry appeared on Stephen Colbert’s Late Show, where the host mocked the book and the royal family ahead of the segment.

The comedian compared the prince’s life to Harry Potter and joked that the new book is available as a royal plaque.

The Duke of Sussex was also spotted downing shots of tequila during the interview in New York after being swept into the studio by armed bodyguards yesterday.

After playing a clip of Harry describing his pain at William trying to avoid him at Eton, the Late Show host said, amid roars of laughter: “This is heartbreaking. Being rejected by his older brother at school, even though that magic hat sorted them into the same house. What do you think? Hufflepuff? Gryffindor?’

In another teaser, Colbert said Spare is available in hardcover, audiobook and “commemorative plaque” — a joke at the expense of Harry and other royals whose weddings and anniversaries are celebrated with limited-edition crockery and tableware.

In another joke at the royal family’s expense, Colbert says, “Get a supply of corgis and steal a priceless cultural treasure from one of your colonies, because The Late Show is going imperial.”

After a series of serious television interviews – which some critics claim didn’t properly question the contradictions in his book – the prince has settled on The Late Show and looks set to become a funny character.

Harry was spotted downing shots of tequila in an interview with The Late Show’s Stephen Colbert yesterday ahead of the show’s airing tonight in the US.

Fans who attended the recording at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City told the Duke of Sussex answered a series of questions from the late-night host in his Colbert Questionert segment.

Developed by the liberal comedian and TV host, the quiz consists of 15 questions which he says “cover the entire spectrum of human experience”.

Questions asked of his guests include what their favorite sandwich is, what app they use most on their phone, and even what number Colbert is thinking of right now.

It’s not known what he replied, but people at the studios managed to film a glimpse of the section where Harry was speaking while double-parked with two shots of tequila, which he later downed would have.
