Princess Eleanor graduates and says goodbye to boarding school in Wales

Princess Leonor, heir to the Spanish crown, ends her two-year stay at UWC Atlantic College in Wales (UK) this Saturday with the graduation ceremony attended by the royal couple and their younger sister, the Infanta Sofía.

The Spanish royal family today published on Twitter pictures of the kings and their daughters at the education center where they studied as a boarding school for the two international Baccalaureate courses.

In these almost two years, only images of the princess upon her arrival at the center on August 30, 2021 were provided, accompanied by other images of the farewell to her family at Madrid airport on the same day.

Leonor de Borbón, who turns 18 on October 31, is completing her pre-university phase and is now about to begin her three-year military training, which will begin on August 17 at the General Rural Academy in Zaragoza (North).

The graduation, called the “Leavers Celebration” in the school, takes place with the participation of the students and their families.

Princess Leonor will take over the baton from her sister, who will start her high school studies at the same boarding school from the end of August once she has completed her secondary education in Madrid.

Alongside Leonor de Borbón, who is also graduating today, is Alexia, the middle daughter of the kings of Holland.

The school, whose landmark is the 12th-century Castle of St Donatus, is 22 miles from Cardiff and around 170 miles from London and welcomes students of many nationalities, races and religions.

The center is part of the United World Colleges (UWC) organization, a network whose guiding principle is “to promote international understanding through education”.

As well as military training, the Princess will also have to take a constitutional oath before the Cortes Generales (Parliament) once she comes of age, although a date has not yet been set.
