A wanted man blew himself up in Hungary while trying to be arrested, killing a police officer.
The man caused a gas explosion last night when agents from the TEK anti-terrorist unit raided his home on the outskirts of the small town of Esztergom, 40 kilometers northwest of Budapest. The Hungarian Public Prosecutor’s Office announced this last night.
Eleven police officers and firefighters were injured in the explosion, four of them seriously. The man was uncooperative and negotiations with him yielded no results, the statement continued. According to a report by the news portal Magyarnemzet.hu, he caused the explosion with a propane gas cylinder.
The man, described as mentally confused, had already threatened to cause an explosion yesterday morning, which is why the anti-terrorist unit finally responded.
