In his own words, Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to “build a new world”. Yesterday, at the Valdai political forum, in the Russian city of Sochi, on the Black Sea, the head of the Kremlin associated the Russian offensive in Ukraine with Western “hegemony”. “We are essentially faced with the task of building a new world,” Putin said.
According to Putin’s interpretation, the Russian offensive “is not a territorial conflict”, but serves to establish the “principles on which the new world order is founded”. “We have no interest in recovering territory”, assured the Kremlin leader, who, however, declared four Ukrainian regions annexed in September 2022, after the annexation of Crimea in 2014.
The Russian head of state accused the West of being characterized by “arrogance” in its actions since the collapse of the Soviet Union. “The USA and its satellites have chosen the path of dominance”, criticized Putin. Furthermore, the West “still needs an enemy with whom it can justify fighting with violence and expansionism.”
