“Christine’s opinion is Christine’s opinion,” Ms. Massé said at a press conference on Tuesday morning in the National Assembly.

She responded to the fact that the member for Sherbrooke criticized QS’s independence and reiterated that the party was using the Constituent Assembly as an “escape” to avoid having to decide on its vision of an independent Quebec.

In the event of a seizure of power, the solidarity groups want to set up a constituent assembly that would be tasked with drawing up a draft constitution for an independent Quebec.

Manon Massé said she “deeply believes in this approach.”

“I lost two referendums […] and there is no question that I am losing a third, and there is only one way I can take that, and that is to bring people together around a political project – the country of Quebec – that is meaningful to them,” argued she.

During a debate with her rivals Émilise Lessard-Therrien and Ruba Ghazal for the position of Solidarity spokesperson, Christine Labrie also reiterated that QS’s environmental proposals had created a “feeling of revulsion” among voters.

Supporting group leader Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois also wanted to put his colleague’s comments into perspective. “Nothing was said on Sunday (during the debate) that wasn’t mentioned in the stocktakes we’ve done since the election,” he said.

He recalled that QS traveled the regions to understand how its proposals could reach more voters.

The new solidarity co-speaker will be elected at the party conference from November 24th to 26th.
