WASHINGTON, March 30 (RHC) – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has ruled out suspending Russia as a member of that organization, which would only happen if the rest of the member countries no longer recognized Vladimir Putin’s government.

IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva (pictured) said it was a very tall order when responding to a question at the world summit of governments in Dubai about the implications for Moscow of its military operation in Ukraine.

This financial organization stated that it had no problems with Russia, stating that the economic consequences of the sanctions against this country are already very serious and could worsen in the future with an extremely uncertain outlook.

Last week, the IMF warned that energy and commodity prices, including wheat and other grains, had risen, adding to inflationary pressures due to disruptions in supply chains and the recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.

He also believed that a potential freeze by Russia due to sanctions imposed by the United States and its allies would have unlimited repercussions around the world.

The penalties severed Moscow’s ties to the global financial system, banned most transactions except for debt payments and oil purchases, and froze $300 billion in foreign exchange reserves held abroad by the Russian government. (Source:PL)
