As we approach the megachurch in The Woodlands, a very Republican neighborhood north of Houston, Texas, music plays. However, contrary to first impressions, it is not a concert, but a trade fair. In front of the building we meet families of almost all backgrounds.
When asked “Which party do you think will win the presidential election?” the couple in their 60s, Lou and Don, respond warmly: “Trump has proven he is capable. He has the right to another chance.” There is also this American of Romanian origin, Lucian, who came with his five children. His choice? Trump too, “because the others aren’t ready yet. It’s just Trump,” he says confidently.
Definitely a Republican
And then there's Brian, full beard, shaved head and camouflage outfit. Which party does he think will win? “It will certainly be a Republican this year,” he says.
“They are pushing for Trump, but I don’t know if it will be my choice. Honestly, in every election you vote for the least worst candidate.”

Not far from the church, in the Angry Elephant bar, Kevin wears an anti-democratic T-shirt based on the animal of the Republican Party. However, he will no longer vote for Trump: “If you stick to what gets the most attention, will it pay off in the long run? It's still too early for me. “I want to hear who has the best policies for the American people.” Not just for some people, I want everyone to win.”
Kevin is still waiting to see who will remain in the running for Nikki Haley, Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy and Chris Christie before making his decision. Iowa votes in a week. Texas will vote on Super Tuesday in two months, in March 2024.
