Return of the cold in Quebec with the winter storm

The winter chill will be back thanks to the big snowstorm that is set to hit most of Quebec’s regions on Wednesday evening.

The mercury will in fact fall sharply to -10ºC in certain sectors in the south of the province, contrasting with the comfortable temperatures seen earlier in the week.

Meanwhile, temperatures will be in the normal range on Tuesday with light snow showers expected in places in southern Quebec.

Accumulations of 6 to 10 inches are expected in Greater Montreal, Quebec City and Estrie, according to Environment Canada, which issued a special weather report.

Strong winds will disrupt the game, with gusts of 50km/h at times to cause snowdrifts that will obscure visibility on the roads, the federal agency predicts.

The storm will gather intensity Thursday morning in areas of eastern Quebec where up to 30 centimeters of snow is expected, particularly in Gaspésie and the north coast.

In these two regions, an episode of freezing rain cannot be ruled out on Thursday evening, should strong and violent winds cause blowing snow.
