A 36yearold man suffered three fractures to his penis during intercourse. The incident happened in Tanzania and was considered unusual by doctors treating the wounds.

According to the Journal of Surgery Case Reports, the man reported he was lying in bed with his partner lying on top of him. During the movement during the sexual act, he tried to reinsert the penis into the woman’s vagina and at that moment heard a popping sound. According to doctors, this position can be dangerous and cause damage to the penis if done without caution.

Then the man lost his erection. He also noticed that the penis was beginning to swell and blood was oozing from the urethra. Five hours later, he went to the hospital, where it was determined that impact with the perineum caused the organ to rupture.

According to the journal, ruptures occurred in both the erectile tissue of the penis and the corpus spongiosum — the part that protects the urethra. A penile fracture occurs when the organ is forced to bend excessively while in an erect state, which can happen during sex or while masturbating. If not treated properly (some require surgery), permanent scars or even erectile dysfunction can result. (With information from GQ Globo)
