Russia: Kursk and Belgorod regions under attack from Ukraine governors

(Portal) – Russia’s Kursk and Belgorod regions were attacked by Ukrainian forces early on Wednesday, local governors of the two border areas said, adding that no casualties had been reported.

“The city of Valouiki is under fire from Ukrainian forces,” wrote Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov at 04:36 GMT on news app Telegram.

Whether it was rocket fire, artillery shells or some other form of attack, he did not specify.

“The air defense system worked, but there is destruction on the ground,” he said.

Roman Starovoyt, the governor of the Kursk region, which also borders Ukraine, said a school and a house were damaged in an attack on the village of Tyotkino, without giving further details.

Portal could not independently verify this information.

In principle, Kiev has not publicly acknowledged attacks in Russia or on Russian-controlled Ukrainian territory.

Both sides deny targeting civilians in the war sparked by the February 24, 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Blasts and attacks have occurred almost daily in Russian regions bordering Ukraine in recent months, with Russian officials blaming either Ukrainian forces or pro-Ukrainian saboteurs.
