Russia: Opponents and former mayor of Yekaterinburg arrested ANSA news agency

(ANSA) – MOSCOW, MARCH 16 – Russian opponent Yevgeny Roizman, former mayor of Yekaterinburg, has been arrested: Russian authorities report. Lawyer Idamzhapov – heard by Tass – claims the reason is sharing a post on VKontakte, but the dissident was not actually involved in the case “because he never had his own page on the social network”. According to some media, the shared post came from Navalny’s foundation. Roizman was arrested in the summer and then released pending trial. He faces several years in prison for “discrediting” the army over a new gag law that effectively bans criticism of the war in Ukraine.
