Russia reaffirms cooperation with every President elect of Lebanon

In an interview for the local broadcaster Al Manar, the diplomat reiterated Russia’s commitment to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states against the background of the power vacuum in Lebanon.

Rudakov emphasized maintaining close contacts with the leaders of all political forces; and in this sense he stressed the need to maintain a balance of interests between them without marginalizing anyone.

Regarding relations with Hezbollah, the head of mission expressed that his country regards the Islamic Resistance as an integral part of Lebanese society, in its capacity as a national political bloc representing the interests of a large section of the population.

Incidentally, the Russian representative in Beirut pointed out that the party has traditionally been strongly represented in parliament and in the government.

Last March, Ambassador Rudakov confirmed that Moscow would provide the Lebanese state with wheat and fuel free of charge in response to the government’s call to deal with the economic, financial and social crisis.

At the same time, he stressed that Russia is offering support to Lebanon given the difficult circumstances and will always listen to suggestions for fruitful projects for the countries.

Since September 2022, the Levantine nation has been trying to elect Michel Aoun’s successor for the first presidency of the republic due to the lack of political dialogue, fragmented legislature and under the interim leadership of a government with limited constitutional powers.
