Russia warns of real danger of nuclear war

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday (25th) that there was a “real” danger Nuclear war between major world powers. According to the Russian government representative, there would be no reason to cite something so serious unless the risk actually existed.

“This is our position, on which we build everything. The risks are now significant,” Lavrov told the Russian state broadcaster, according to Reuters. “I would not artificially increase those risks. Some would like that. The risk is serious, real, and we must not underestimate it.”

Regarding the peace negotiations with Ukraine, Lavrov said that in order for an agreement to be reached, it is necessary to have the will of both sides. The Russian foreign minister stressed the country’s willingness to reach an agreement with Kyiv.

“Good will has limits. And if it’s not mutual, it doesn’t contribute to the negotiation process,” Lavrov said, as quoted by Russian news agencies. “But we will continue to negotiate with the team that was sent over [Volodimir] Zelensky, and contacts will continue,” he said.

Despite Lavrov’s speech, Deputy Ambassador of Russia to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky said that a Ceasefire is not a valid option at this timeonly helps Ukrainian troops to reposition themselves.

“We don’t think a ceasefire is a good option at the moment because the only benefit it would offer would be that Ukrainian forces could regroup and engage in more provocations,” Polyanskiy said.
