Moscow, January 8 (EFE). – Russian anti-aircraft forces today shot down a Ukrainian S-200 missile over the Belgorod region, more than 500 kilometers from the border with Ukraine.
The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that the “attempted terrorist attack” in Kiev occurred at 07:00 local time (04:00 GMT).
The military note highlights that the Ukrainian missile was aimed at ground facilities on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov estimated today that nearly 300 residents have decided to leave the region's capital, punished by constant Ukrainian bombings, and move to safer places.
The authorities decided this after a Ukrainian attack on December 30 left 25 people dead and more than a hundred injured.
Gladkov, who denounced new Ukrainian attacks with artillery and drones on Telegram, also put the number of requests received to transfer minors to camps in other regions of the country at 1,300.
Because of the attacks, the authorities decided to extend the Christmas holidays for schoolchildren, which ended on January 9th, until the 19th.
For the same reason, the city council canceled services in all Belgorod churches on Sunday on the occasion of Orthodox Christmas.EFE
