During a seminar organized by the Kremlin for domestic officials ahead of the upcoming Russian presidential election, Sergei Kiriyenko, deputy director of the presidential administration, urged officials to swap their phones for iPhone owners, according to Kommersant daily, quoted by Portal agency.
“The iPhone is over: we either throw it away or we give it to the kids,” one of the managers explained during the meeting.
The Russian business newspaper specifies that the Kremlin bases it on security considerations because these devices are more susceptible to hacking and espionage by Western specialists than other smartphones. This official measure therefore applies to all officials in the country involved in the preparations for the 2024 Russian presidential election.
The members of the presidential administration responsible for domestic politics in Russia have less than two weeks to part with their iPhone. Officials must switch phones before April 1 in favor of a Chinese or Russian Android smartphone.
The Kremlin could provide other devices with a different operating system to replace iPhones. In order to be completely independent, you should know that Russia has decided to create its own smartphone operating system called Aurora. The goal of this operating system “Made in Russia” is to create state technological sovereignty through a secure mobile environment.
The issue of communications security has become a real priority in the world of Russian political power, so it is very important to pay attention to the equipment used, especially if it is from the United States.
