SAG Awards 2024 Oprah Winfrey 70 shows off her slim

SAG Awards 2024: Oprah Winfrey, 70, shows off her slim figure in a purple dress and gets cozy with Taraji P. Henson as the duo speculates squash feuds

Oprah Winfrey showed off her shrinking figure while supporting the cast of The Color Purple at the 2024 SAG Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday night.

As a nod to the musical film, the 70-year-old TV icon appeared in a striking purple off-the-shoulder dress with a belt at the waist.

Oprah – who took weight loss medication to lose dramatic weight – paired her dress with a purple satin clutch and diamond drop earrings.

She skipped the red carpet but was later seen at the theater at a table with the cast of The Color Purple: Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Ciara and Halle Bailey.

Oprah, who produced the Netflix remake of the 1985 film in which she starred, quashed rumors of a feud with Taraji by befriending the actress for a photo.

Speculation that the couple was at odds began last year when they used the media to promote The Color Purple.

Taraji publicly complained about a paltry initial salary offer and claimed that she and the other cast members were told they had to drive to the film's set in their rental cars.

Speaking to The New York Times, the The Curious Case of Benjamin Button actress said that the request was not only an insult to an actor of her fame, but that it was also potentially “dangerous” and an “insurance liability issue.”

Oprah vehemently denied the feud rumors when speaking to CBS at the Golden Globe Awards, and sounded as if she was shocked by talk of alleged bad blood between her and Taraji.

“It's so disturbing to me.” Why is my name even mentioned in this conversation? Why is my name in this conversation? “Because I was just everyone’s champion,” she said defensively.

Speaking to CBS' Gayle King on the red carpet for the 2024 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, the 69-year-old talk show host and actress sounded as if she was shocked by talk of alleged bad blood between her and Taraji.

“It's so disturbing to me.” Why is my name even mentioned in this conversation? Why is my name in this conversation? “Because I was just everyone’s champion,” she said defensively.

“What makes me so upset is that… something went viral when they were analyzing us on the roof of the Empire State Building,” Winfrey continued, referencing a TikTok video that fans dissected.

Oprah Winfrey recently admitted that she took weight-loss medication for her dramatic body transformation – after previously denying ever taking Ozempic or similar weight-loss medications

The clip, taken during a December trip to the iconic skyscraper so the cast and creative team could bathe it in purple light to promote their film, shows Winfrey strolling to the edge of the room where Taraji is leaning against the fence .

The two posed for a few photos while standing next to each other, but then Taraji's co-stars Fantasia Barrino and Danielle Brooks and her director Samuel Bazawule joined them for a group photo and Oprah quickly moved from next to Taraji to the outer edge.

Some TikTok users interpreted Taraji's departure as a sign of some tension between the two, but her previous smiles and behavior did not seem to show this alleged tension, and it was more likely that the Oprah Winfrey Show host was simply moving out. The focus is on that , that the three actresses could be in the best spot, while the two characters behind the scenes were on the edge of the photo.

Oprah told her best friend Gayle that the lack of warmth between her and Taraji that day was probably due to the cool, windy conditions high above Manhattan.

“We were cold! “It was cold,” she added. “That was the fourth thing we did that day.”

Winfrey continued to defend her attempts as a producer on The Color Purple to make working conditions more comfortable for Taraji and her co-stars.

“I heard that Taraji was upset because she was asked to do this [use] “a rental car,” she explained to King. “I personally called Toby Emmerich, who was head of Warner Bros. at the time, and he said, 'That means we have to make cars for everyone.'

“And I said, 'Then let's make cars for everyone.' And if I have to, I'll pay for the cars myself.” He said, “Well, we don't want you to do that,” she said.

“So that was one thing, trailers were another thing, food was another thing.” And it was all handled,” Winfrey added.

It's unclear whether the production ultimately found room in the budget to pay for these amenities or had to try something more creative to accommodate financing for chauffeur-driven cars.

Following Oprah's denial, Taraji opened up about the alleged rivalry, telling Today.com: “I hope they can get back to focusing on this movie because right now it feels like what I said louder than this beautiful film.” '

Taraji continued, “I hope they can focus on this film again because right now it feels like what I said is going to be louder than this beautiful film.”

“And that's not fair to me or anyone in the film, because the film is about oppressed women – living in an oppressed system.”

'Men and women. And all the characters in this movie except the white ones. So this film is about healing. This film is about sisterhood.'

This meeting might not have happened months ago, because after a grueling 118-day strike, the Screen Actors Guild honored the best actors in film and television at the gala.

The winners were chosen by SAG-AFTRA members who voted for their favorites in several categories.

The awards come just months after SAG-AFTRA reached an agreement with film studios following a months-long strike over major concerns such as pay in the streaming age and artificial intelligence.

The strike began on July 25, 2023 and a tentative agreement was reached on November 8. It officially ended on December 5, 2023 with a yes vote of 78%.

Despite disagreements over the final deal, the result was a major relief for union leaders and the entertainment industry after a grueling few months of strike action.

The boycott coincided with the WGA strike, which lasted from May 2 to September 27.
