Sainte Marie: a restaurateur prosecuted after the alcohol induced coma of an 8 year old child

On Sunday April 24, the emergency services attended to an 8-year-old boy suffering from an alcoholic coma in a restaurant in Sainte-Marie. The waiters mistakenly served him alcohol without his parents noticing. The manager is being sued for negligent bodily harm.

It’s a matter hard to believe: last Sunday, an 8-year-old boy was treated by the emergency services at the exit of a restaurant in Sainte-Marie in a worrying condition after accidentally drinking alcohol.

It was his parents who contacted SAMU after realizing that the child was not doing well at all. The waiters would have served him vodka or rum a priori, while his parents would have ordered him a mint with water.

The restaurant staff speaks of a confusion. The bottle of water that was served with the mint syrup actually contained alcohol. According to witnesses, the child drank his entire glass through a straw before he began to feel unwell.

He was hospitalized at the Saint-Denis CHU and the analyzes showed that he had more than 2 grams of alcohol in his blood! An already high rate for an adult in the prime of life. Such consumption could easily have cost a child his life.

The boy, who was in a coma for four hours, was finally able to leave the hospital on Monday. His parents then went to file a complaint. The investigation quickly led to interviews with the various protagonists, from the waiter to the manager of the establishment.

This Wednesday, April 27th, the Saint Denis floor announced in a press release that the person in charge of the facility will be summoned before the Saint-Denis Penitentiary Court to answer for “involuntary injuries”.
