On this Sunday, November 6th, a tragedy happened in Sainte-Rose. Gérard Plante, 57, is said to have killed his partner Charlotte Dalleau with a bladed weapon. The main suspect is said to suffer from mental disorders and had spent several months in a psychiatric hospital this year.
It is the second femicide on Réunion since the beginning of the year and the 95th nationally. Gérard Plante fatally stabbed his partner Charlotte Dalleau in Sainte-Rose on Sunday.
The man went to his neighbor’s house covered in blood, attempted suicide after the crime and was hospitalized. He is now in custody and a preliminary investigation into premeditated homicide has been initiated.
A “fragile” man
According to relatives and neighbors, the couple never had any problems and seemed to live the “perfect love”. In fact, he planned to get married soon.
Gérard Plante, the main suspect, is said to have a mental disorder and spent several months in a psychiatric hospital in Saint-Pierre. He was a municipal employee and took care of the animation of the events in the town hall. Michel Vergoz, the mayor of Sainte-Rose, adds: “It is a tragedy that is shaking our small town. We have done everything to monitor it. It has been mentally vulnerable for some time.”
This Monday, November 7th, the autopsy of the victim’s body must take place to determine the exact cause of death.
