Prolific leaker Ice Universe has shared on his Twitter account a summary of his information about Samsung’s next foldable smartphones: the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip 5. Confirming much of the information mentioned over the last few months, this specialist also admits some more details possible future screens and dimensions of the two products.

We know even more about what Samsung’s next folding smartphones could look like. In a tweet on Sunday March 19, 2023, the leaker ice universe publishes a roundup of rumors about the next models in the South Korean manufacturer’s Galaxy Z lineup: the Galaxy Z Fold 5 foldable book-size and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 foldable clamshell-size.
Generally quite reliable, this specialist has also mentioned hypothetical properties never seen before for these two products. The crispest information is also the most laconic: these new smartphones would offer “new touchscreen technology” … without the leaker divulging more details.
A thinner and lighter Fold 5
Ice Universe therefore largely confirms rumors shared earlier. In particular, the fact that the two folding smartphones are said to integrate a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, as reported by South Korean media The Elec in July 2022. Likewise, the leaker echoes information put forward over the last few months about a possible new hinge with a “teardrop” design that would reduce the crease on the screen while offering an IPX8 seal.
Ice Universe has nevertheless detailed the next Z Fold 5 in an unprecedented way. If this internal design change had little impact on the external design, it would still change the dimensions of the smartphone a bit: “After folding, the gap becomes [entre les deux moitiés d’écran] disappears and thins out,” explains the leaker. This would make the phone about “0.2mm” thicker, from 15.8mm on the Z Fold 4 to “13mm” on this new model. Information contradicting the so-called “stolen” photo of a Z Fold 5 published by a South Korean blog last week.
As expected, this new hinge would also have an impact on the smartphone’s weight: the Galaxy Z Fold 5 could weigh “254 grams” according to Ice Universe, versus 263 grams for the Z Fold 4. As mentioned in March, the outer screen of the Z Fold 5 keep the same size: 6.2 inches. It is therefore expected to feature the same fairly close ratio as its predecessor.
A Flip 5 with a large square external screen
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 hasn’t been spared from unpublished rumors either. In addition to information on its next chip and hinge, the leaker also gave the exact size that the new external screen of Samsung’s next foldable clamshell smartphone could be, today 1.9 inches. In recent months, rumors have multiplied about an imminent restyling of this small plate dedicated to the use of the smartphone’s functions even when folded.

Ice Universe itself had argued that this sub-screen would be larger than that of the Oppo Find N2 Flip (3.2 inches). The leaker doesn’t contradict himself: According to his latest tweet, the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s external panel would grow to 3.4 inches… and would be “almost square”! In another tweet on Monday, Jan. ice universe also states that this new screen would have a “1:1.038” ratio.
Finally, those rumors end in tatters by reminiscent of the Z Flip 5’s inner screen, which Ice Universe says could still have “thinner” edges than its predecessor.
Unpublished but inaccurate images
Information, including 3D renderings in images and videos, of what this product could look like was released by the leaker on Saturday March 18th Super Roader on twitter. According to this, the smartphone would even have a tiny third screen on the outside to display the time and date, although these rather inaccurate details should be treated with caution.

However, the rumors shared in recent months seem to be heading in the same direction, that of a completely redesigned external screen. The rumors should be confirmed or debunked as we get closer to the launch of these two smartphones, both expected in early August 2023.
