Secret documents in the bathroom, gossip about military strike plans: with the indictment of Donald Trump in the documents case, the US judiciary is making serious accusations against the former US president. The 49-page indictment against the Republican presidential candidate was released yesterday.
A total of seven categories of offenses are listed, Trump is accused of a total of 37 offenses. Charges include conspiracy to obstruct investigations and unlawfully withholding highly classified information, including details of US and foreign nuclear capabilities and US military contingency plans.
The backdrop is the case surrounding Trump’s handling of classified government documents after he left the White House. FBI federal police had searched his private home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, in August and confiscated a variety of classified information, some with the highest level of classification. When filing the complaint, the special prosecutor in charge of the case, Jack Smith, emphasized, among other things, that the law is equal for all. As with everyone else, the presumption of innocence applies to Trump. The stated goal is now a “quick process”.
