Senator Renan Calheiros (MDBAL), who is part of Presidentelect Lula’s (PT) transition team, is scheduled to introduce a legislative package this Tuesday (29) to punish protesters who are blocking public roads to contest the outcome of the election. One of the proposals envisages imprisonment of up to four years for those who block the highways, in addition to a fine, and also proposes punishment of officials who do not take action to clear the roads when the activity is their responsibility, as the federal highways of the police.
The parliamentarian explained on social media that the proposals aim to punish “political intolerance and crimes against democracy”. “In the face of hate and coup I will present 1 PEC and 5 projects to punish political intolerance and crimes against the Democratic State. We defeated fascism in the elections. We will submit them to the Senate President this Tuesday at 4 p.m. He defends that all acts included in the bill will only be judged by the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
