According to the Ministry of Health of Mato Grosso (SESMT), a new subvariant of Covid19, JN 2.5, a variant of Ômicron, has been identified in the state. “This is the first record of the subvariant in Brazil,” the folder says. The new strain was discovered during research conducted between January 16 and 18.
According to the secretariat, a total of four patients tested positive for JN 2.5 and were admitted to hospital. They all had serious illnesses.
Of the patients who tested positive, three have already been discharged and are stable. They remain in home isolation under the supervision of community surveillance. However, the fourth patient had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and died. The case is being investigated by the state Department of Health as it cannot be said that the cause of death was due to Covid19.
The government of the state of Mato Grosso warns the population of flulike symptoms and reiterates the call for individual care: use of masks in case of flu or cold, hand hygiene with soap or 70 percent alcohol and vaccination against the disease.
In addition to Brazil, other countries have also identified the JN 2.5 subvariant, such as Canada, France, Poland, Spain, the United States, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
