Singer Luck Mervil wants to plead not guilty to the sexual assault allegation currently made against him.
His case was adjourned to the Rimouski court on Monday, but the lawyer who represented him virtually, Me Anne-Marie Drouin, indicated that her client wanted to plead not guilty.
His plea of innocence could not be officially recorded on Monday morning because the defense first has to make certain decisions for the further course of the trial.
Charges of sexual assault
Recall that on November 29, the singer was arrested by investigators for crimes against the Rimouski Persons Department.
The 56-year-old man is accused of sexually abusing a woman in Rimouski on the night of June 23-24, 2000.
The alleged victim was an adult at the time of the events. To protect the complainant's identity, a publication ban was imposed.
This is the second time Luck Mervil has been in trouble with the law for sex crimes.
In 2018, the man admitted to sexually exploiting a babysitter who was underage at the time of the crime in 1996. He then had to serve a six-month prison sentence in a shared apartment. This crime also resulted in his name being placed on the sex offenders register for 20 years.
This sexual assault case will be heard again in court on February 26 at the Rimouski Courthouse.
