But when the parents return, Madeleine has disappeared. A case that has been teasing the English tabloids for 15 years. And above all, an investigation that is faltering. In fact, the investigators have their sights on Christian Brueckner. A 45-year-old German man who has previously been convicted of sexual assault and is currently serving a 7-year prison sentence in Germany. Brueckner was in Praia da Luz at the time of Maddie’s kidnapping.
But for a few days it’s another piece of information that’s moving the media around the world. In fact, a young woman claims to be Maddie McCann. JuliaShe, who currently resides in Poland, is posing as Madeleine. At least that’s what she announces loud and clear on Instagram, because her account “iammadelemcan” (“I’m Madeleine McCann”) has already passed the one million subscriber mark less than a week after it was created.

To confirm her statements, she puts forward two “Proof” : Freckles but also a much more distinctive spot on the right eye. Well…Julia is 21 and Maddie shouldn’t be until 19. But on the other hand, the young woman says that maybe she was wrong about her age. She also says she can do a DNA test if parents request it. And this is the case. According to Marca, Maddie’s family are demanding this concrete proof. “In my heart and in my soul I know it. But in my mind and my brain I need a DNA test to be sure,” she said in a video uploaded Tuesday.

So some people cry about cheating and others wonder La Vanguardia has gone further. Our Catalan colleagues asked artificial intelligence to find out if Julia is Maddie. Thanks to the IA Stable Diffusion tool, they produced various robotic portraits of Madeleine, who would now be in her early twenties. And for our colleagues, the results are surprising: “The truth is that the images created by the artificial intelligence look very similar to the girl who claims to be Madeleine. The shape of the eyes and eyebrows and the thick lips are an obvious similarity.” They also agree on hair color and some facial expressions, which still raises doubts as to whether Julia is the real Madeleine.”
