A woman was arrested by police on Wednesday after she sneaked onto the tarmac at Canberra airport in Australia to try to catch up with her plane that was headed to the city of Alaiida.
“A lady who missed her plane thought she could catch it,” Simon Hales, a witness to the incident, commented in a lengthy post on Facebook.
“She pushed employees out the doors and ran onto the tarmac,” he continued. Fortunately, the pilot was made aware of this and shut down his engines.”
The straggler managed to get past under the watchful eye of security officers and rushed towards the plane in a desperate attempt to get on board. Pictures posted on social media showed that she even stood under the plane while trying to signal the pilot.
Several witnesses at the scene were shocked by the woman’s behavior.
“People were really surprised. They really didn’t know what to do,” Dennis Bilic told 9News after filming the woman outside.
“She was shouting things to the pilot. She tried to get his attention by jumping. It was really strange,” said Simon Hales.
The woman was eventually arrested by Australian Federal Police. The incident caused airport flights to be delayed by about 10 minutes.
An investigation is ongoing and authorities are expected to release more details about this case in the coming days.
