In the 108th minute of the game, Enzo Fernandez made a counterattack with Messi and Lautaro Martinez. This hit the ball with force on the French goalkeeper. Hugo Lloris managed to position himself before the first shot, but the ball bounced off the foot of the famous number 10, who thus offered the goal that gave the Argentines the lead.
According to the daily l’Équipe, the goal would not have been allowed by the official had he applied the rule to the letter. Some Argentine substitutes are said to have been on the pitch before the ball even crossed the goal line behind Lloris.
In the French media article, it is possible to read law 3, paragraph 9 of the Football Laws, which stipulates that: “If, after a goal has been scored, before the restart of the game, the referee determines that an extra person was on the field of play, if the goal was scored: the referee must award the goal if the additional person who scored the goal was: a player, substitute, substituted player, sent off player or team official; Play must be restarted with a direct free kick from where the extra person was.
One thing is for sure, this historic game is not over yet.
