Singer Calum Scott recalls the moment he heard one of his own songs while on a Tinder date

Singer Calum Scott once had one of his own hits during a dinner date with a potential suitor he met through a dating app.

The 34-year-old Britain’s Got Talent graduate, who is an openly gay man, recalled the hilarious moment on Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa radio show this week.

He was asked by the hosts to share the “weirdest place” he’d ever heard his music play.

“There was a time when I was on a date… I set the date on Tinder. And I went upstairs to get my dinner reservation… and this guy didn’t know who I was,” Calum explained.

One of the hits started playing over the speakers, and Calum “prayed” that his date wouldn’t catch on.

“I sat down and then the choir comes. I’m trying to eat my bread,” he said, laughing.

“You point to your date and leave, great song. You gotta make the p*ss out of it, don’t you?’ Fitzy asked.

“Yeah, but can you imagine if I said, ‘God, that guy has a great voice,’ and he said, ‘I hate him,'” the singer replied.

“That would have been really embarrassing. I would have just eaten the appetizer and left.”

Calum is pretty private when it comes to his dating life.

Years ago he was rumored to be having an affair with singer and pal Sam Smith, who now identifies as non-binary and uses she/them pronouns.

Calum became a household name in 2015 when he competed on Britain’s Got Talent.

Despite finishing sixth in the competition, the Brit became a chart topper after releasing his cover of pop singer Robyn’s track Dancing On My Own in 2016.

The single enjoyed a resurgence this year by becoming the “unofficial playoff anthem” for the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team.

As Billboard reported in October, “Dancing On My Own sales skyrocketed from a negligible daily volume to almost 1,100 combined copies on Saturday and Sunday — enough for the song to appear in the top 100 for real-time iTunes sales.”
