Distributing more and more weapons while countless people die does not bring any progress. In addition, after 600 days it is clear that the sanctions are doing more damage to the EU than to Russia, explained Blanar, quoted by the digital newspaper Aktuality.sk.
The sanctions against Russia have had a boomerang effect on the Slovak economy, with the impact being even greater due to high fuel and food prices, said Blanar.
The community bloc was once a peace project to ensure peaceful coexistence between the states of this region and we want to return to this original idea, the official added, according to the aforementioned media outlet.
The foreign minister spoke of a frozen conflict for which there is no military solution and said his country’s new government was open to all progressive ideas aimed at peace in the former Soviet republic, the newspaper reported.
Blanar called for a quick ceasefire and noted that Slovakia supports a democratically ruled Ukraine that exists within internationally recognized borders, Aktuality.sk stressed.
In addition, the politician from Robert Fico’s government asked the EU for non-military aid worth 50 billion euros, which Ukraine should receive over the next four years, the online newspaper reported.
On February 24 last year, President Vladimir Putin ordered a military operation to protect the insurgent population of the Donbass region and to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine. This was followed by an economic war between the West and Russia.
