A 58-year-old father in Spain is on trial for letting his 8-year-old child drive his car while sitting next to him.
Last March, the family man allegedly handed the wheel to his 8-year-old son while he was in the grounds of the Cortijo de Torres exhibition center in the city of Malaga, Spain, according to a video shared by Malaga Local Police on YouTube.
Eyewitnesses saw the car zigzag, reportedly videotaped the car and notified authorities.
“The minor was in the driver’s seat at the wheel of the car while his father was in the passenger seat, as local police officers intervened, after viewing video recorded by a witness, were able to verify the facts.” – we read in the description of the video.
Upon arriving at the scene, police reportedly quickly found the parked vehicle. They would then have informed the man that an investigation would be initiated.
The latter was also accused of committing a road safety crime by allowing his boy to take the reins. The video says he was summoned to a trial at short notice.
This is not the first time a child has found himself behind the wheel of a vehicle.
In May 2022, a 4-year-old boy allegedly stole his mother’s car in the Netherlands without her noticing, before he was spotted in his pajamas and barefoot on a street, according to reports from France Live.
Near the crime scene, police found the mother’s car, which had crashed into two other vehicles. Luckily nobody was hurt.
