Spain: First police charges in front of the PSOE headquarters Latest News Ansa.it

Participation in the demonstration in front of the PSOE national headquarters in Madrid is increasing: around 8,000 people are now protesting against the agreement in favor of amnesty reached this morning in Brussels between the Socialists and the Catalan independents of the Junts. This is the largest demonstration since protests began on this street in the capital last Friday. Also present was Santiago Abascal, leader of the far-right Vox party: “We have to stay on the streets,” he said, “until the coup stops.”

I am here to support our compatriots and tell them that they are not alone. We are facing the darkest time in history.

We have a duty to resist a government and a tyrant who are about to unite all the enemies of Spain.”

But after more than two hours without incident, some officers brought charges in response to the throwing of objects, fireworks and flares by the most radical wing on the front line of the demonstration near the PSOE’s national headquarters. This time the police presence is huge: numerous police cars advance behind the officers with helmets, shields and batons in their hands. At this moment the demonstrators retreat and divide into small groups. Only one person is currently arrested.
