Canada reached the semifinals of the Spengler Cup on Friday, defeating KalPa Kuopio 6-3.
Chris DiDomenico led the way with two goals and an assist. Jonathan Ang, John Quenneville, Jonathan Hazen and Guillaume Asselin were the other scorers for the Maple Leaf.
Head coach Bruce Boudreau's team took a 5-0 lead. The Finnish club woke up in the third period and scored their three successes, but it was too little, too late. DiDomenico ended his rivals' hopes by hitting the finish in an abandoned cage thanks to a sixth runner.
The KalPa goal scorers were Colby Sissons, Jaakko Rissanen and Kasper Simontaival.
On Saturday, Canada will face HC Dynamo Pardubice in the semifinals. The Czech club received a bye after finishing first in their group in the preliminary round.
In the other game of the Final Four, HC Davos meets Frölunda HC.
Canada is trying to win its 17th Spengler Cup title. The unifolié is the most successful team in the annual competition.
