NFL Injuries Week 18: Texans and Colts trending in opposite directions health-wise heading into winner-take-all game – CBS Sports

That's it. The final week of the 2023 NFL regular season. Saturday and Sunday will be full of life-or-death matches as teams try to clinch division crowns or wild card spots. There are 20 teams remaining in Super Bowl contention, which is the highest number in NFL history with one game week remaining. Six teams have win-and-in scenarios, so this weekend is sure to be an unforgettable experience.

Every single team is dealing with injuries at this point in the year, and there are numerous franchises that have their starters out as well. Below we take a look at the latest injury reports from the regular season. Let's start with the two matches on Saturday.

Odds courtesy of SportsLine Consensus

Saturday, 4:30 p.m. ET

  • Steelers: DB Trenton Thompson (neck), S Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee), LB Elandon Roberts (chest) QUESTIONABLE
  • Ravens: WR Odell Beckham Jr. (coach's decision), LB Malik Harrison (groin), CB Marlon Humphrey (calf), QB Lamar Jackson (coach's decision), CB Daryl Worley (shoulder/ankle), OG Kevin Zeitler (knee/quad/coach's decision) OUT; WR Zay Flowers (Calf) doubtful; CB Ronald Darby (illness), S Kyle Hamilton (knee), CB Arthur Maulet (hip), CB Brandon Stephens (ankle), WR Tylan Wallace (knee), S Ar'Darius Washington (chest) QUESTIONABLE

The Steelers need a win against the Ravens and other help to get into the playoffs. A win and a loss against the Bills or Jaguars would secure their entry. Kenny Pickett has been in full practice all week with his ankle problem, but Mason Rudolph will start for Pittsburgh. Fitzpatrick, Thompson and Roberts, all listed as questionable, were limited on both Wednesday and Thursday.

With the No. 1 seed, the Ravens are sitting on numerous starters on Saturday. The secondary could be a problem as seven cornerbacks or safeties have either been ruled out or listed as questionable, including Darby, Hamilton and Humphrey. On offense, Tyler Huntley starts at center in place of the resting Jackson, Zeitler is also out and Flowers is questionable.

Saturday, 8:15 p.m. ET

A Houston win puts the Texans in the game, but they won't have Brown or Greenard in the lineup. The Texans have a handful of other starters who are considered questionable, such as Anderson, Collins, Rankins and Tunsil. However, NFL Media reported Saturday that both Tunsil and Anderson are expected to play.

The Colts will at least secure a Wild Card spot with a win, but they have some issues on offense. With Kelly, Nelson and Smith, three starters are considered questionable, but all three took part in at least limited practice on Thursday. Moss, who is also listed as questionable, participated fully in practice on Wednesday and Thursday.

A Buccaneers win would give Tampa Bay the NFC South crown. The Bucs' headline act is Mayfield, who is questionable with a rib injury. However, he took part in training on a limited basis on Thursday and was a full participant on Friday. With the division on the line, you have to imagine he will play.

Haynes will not be on the roster this week after suffering a concussion last week that required hospitalization in Jacksonville. Horn, who is questionable, took part in full training on Friday.

With the playoffs ahead of them, the Browns have several starters. Keep an eye on their special teams as kicker Hopkins won't play and punter Bojorquez is questionable. Both were injured against the Texans a few weeks ago.

The Bengals will likely be without Higgins in the season finale, who was unable to practice all week due to his hamstring injury. He is officially doubtful. Awuzie is questionable after missing practice on Friday with a shoulder injury.

  • Vikings: CB Byron Murphy (knee), WR Jalen Nailor (concussion), OT Brian O'Neill (ankle), DT Jaquelin Roy (ankle), CB Mekhi Blackmon (shoulder), DB Theo Jackson (toe) OUT; OG Ed Ingram (shoulder), OT Christian Darrisaw (illness) QUESTIONABLE
  • Lions: LB James Houston (ankle), WR Jameson Williams (ankle/illness), TE Brock Wright (hip) OUT; S CJ Gardner-Johnson (pectoral), DL Benito Jones (illness), DT Alim McNeill (knee) QUESTIONABLE

The Vikings will not have Murphy, O'Neill or Blackmon in the lineup this weekend. It is questionable whether Darrisaw is suffering from an illness after missing practice on Friday. Minnesota needs help to make the postseason. The Vikings have to win against the Lions, plus a loss by the Seahawks, the Packers and a loss by the Saints or Buccaneers.

The Lions are one of the few teams that have already secured their spot in the playoffs and will face their regulars. It is questionable whether Gardner-Johnson and McNeill will return to the field and CJGJ has even been fully involved in training all week. However, Houston isn't ready yet. He had limited training all week but was eliminated.

  • Jets: QB Aaron Rodgers (Achilles), OL Jake Hanson (concussion), TE Jeremy Ruckert (concussion), QB Zach Wilson (concussion) OUT; OL Wes Schweitzer (calf) doubtful
  • Patriots: OT Trent Brown (illness), TE Hunter Henry (knee) OUT; CB Myles Bryant (illness), DT Christian Barmore (knee), TE Pharaoh Brown (ribs), LB Anfernee Jennings (knee), DB Jonathan Jones (knee), WR DeVante Parker (ribs), S Jabrill Peppers (hamstring), WR Matthew Slater (hamstring), LB Jahlani Tavai (tooth), CB Shaun Wade (hip), CB Jalen Mills (ankle), WR Tyquan Thornton (ankle) QUESTIONABLE

It is official. Rodgers will not play another game this season. Neither will Wilson due to his concussion, as Trevor Siemian will end New York's disappointing season at quarterback.

The Patriots may be playing their last game of the Bill Belichick era and have several starters whose play is questionable. All 12 players listed as questionable participated in limited practice Friday.

  • Hawks: LB Troy Andersen (pectoral), C Drew Dalman (ankle), RB DeMarcco Hellams (concussion) OUT; QB Taylor Heinicke (ankle), DL Zach Harrison (knee), CB Mike Hughes (concussion) QUESTIONABLE
  • Saints: S Lonnie Johnson (knee), OT Landon Young (knee) OUT; TE Juwan Johnson (chest), RB Alvin Kamara (ankle), DT Khalen Saunders (concussion), RB Kendre Miller (ankle/illness), WR AT Perry (illness), DE Payton Turner (toe), S JT Gray (illness) QUESTIONABLE

The Falcons need a win and a Buccaneers loss to the Panthers to make the playoffs, but they may not have their starting quarterback Heinicke, who is questionable to play because of an ankle injury. He participated in limited training throughout the week.

The Saints could clinch the NFC South with a win and a Buccaneers loss or tie. New Orleans could also make the playoffs with a win against Atlanta as well as a Seahawks loss/tie and a Packers loss/tie. It is questionable whether Kamara will be able to play with an ankle injury after not practicing all week. Miller is also questionable due to an ankle injury and illness. Johnson was limited on Thursday and Friday with a pectoral injury and it is questionable whether he will be able to play.

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said Lawrence's decision to play could come shortly before the game. He participated in limited training throughout the week. Both Jones and Kirk participated in limited practice throughout the week. The Jags need a win to win the AFC South.

While Levis is questionable whether he can play, it is Ryan Tannehill who will start at quarterback. It will likely be his final game as a Tennessee Titan. The Titans are already out of the playoffs, but Tennessee can play spoilsport and keep Jacksonville from winning the division.

  • Seahawks: DE Mario Edwards (knee), OG Phil Haynes (toe), OT Abraham Lucas (knee), RB Kenny McIntosh (thumb) OUT; LB Nick Bellore (knee), LB Jordyn Brooks (ankle), OT Jason Peters (foot), NT Jarran Reed (knee) QUESTIONABLE
  • Cardinals: OT DJ Humphries (knee), OT Dante Stills (knee), CB Garrett Williams (ankle) OUT; LB Dennis Gardeck (knee), S Andre Chachere (shoulder), LB Victor Dimukeje (foot), DT Leki Fotu (hand), OT Elijah Wilkinson (illness), WR Zach Pascal (hamstring) QUESTIONABLE

The Seahawks can clinch a playoff spot with a Packers win and loss or draw. Seattle will be without Edwards and Lucas on Sunday due to knee injuries, as both have not practiced all week. It's questionable whether Reed will be able to play with a knee injury despite not practicing at all.

Arizona will be without Humphries, who was unable to practice all week due to a knee injury, in the regular-season finale. Wilkinson and Pascal were added to the injury report on Thursday and it is questionable whether both are fit.

  • Bears: WR Darnell Mooney (concussion) OUT; DB Jaylon Johnson (shoulder) doubtful; DB Kyler Gordon (calf), RB Khalil Herbert (back/staff), TE Cole Kmet (knee), OL Lucas Patrick (calf), LS Patrick Scales (foot) QUESTIONABLE
  • packer: RB AJ Dillon (thumb/neck), S Rudy Ford (hamstring) OUT; LB Isaiah McDuffie (concussion/neck) doubtful; OG Elgton Jenkins (knee/ankle), TE Luke Musgrave (kidney), WR Jayden Reed (chest), EDGE Preston Smith (ankle), OT Luke Tenuta (ankle), WR Christian Watson (hamstring), WR Dontayvion Wicks (chest) , RB Emanuel Wilson (shoulder) QUESTIONABLE

It's déjà vu as the Packers face a win-and-in situation at home against a division rival. We'll see if the Bears can do what the Lions did at Lambeau Field last year. The Bears won't have Mooney on offense, who hasn't practiced all week because of his concussion. Star cornerback Johnson is questionable to play after missing practice all week due to a shoulder injury, while Herbert is questionable due to a back/personal issue. He didn't train on Friday.

The Packers have ruled out Dillon due to thumb and neck injuries, while wide receivers Reed, Watson and Wicks are questionable. Wicks was a full participant Friday, Reed was limited and Watson didn't practice. Smith is another notable questionable player. He missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday but returned as a limited participant on Friday.

Manhertz and McGlinchey were out for Denver on Friday. Both players haven't trained all week.

The Raiders won't have Jacobs for the regular season finale as he missed practice all week with a quadriceps injury. Mayer also had to miss the game due to a toe injury. Star defenseman Maxx Crosby was limited all week with his knee injury but will not play in Week 18.

  • Chiefs: WR Rashee Rice (hamstring), CB L'Jarius Sneed (calf), WR Kadarius Toney (hip/ankle), OT Donovan Smith (neck) OUT; QB Patrick Mahomes (ankle) doubtful; RB Isiah Pacheco (quad/shoulder), LB Nick Bolton (wrist/abdominal), CB Trent McDuffie (shoulder), DE George Karlaftis (NIR), DE Michael Danna (NIR) QUESTIONABLE
  • Charger: WR Keenan Allen (heel), LB Joey Bosa (foot), LB Justin Hollins (shoulder), DT Nick Williams (shoulder) OUT; LB Kenneth Murray (shoulder), OG Zion Johnson (neck) doubtful; CB Deane Leonard (heel), LB Tanner Muse (knee), TE Stone Smartt (shoulder), LB Tuli Tuipulotu (ankle) QUESTIONABLE

With the playoffs decided, the Chiefs will be without several starters on Sunday. It's questionable whether Pacheco will be able to play with quad and shoulder problems. It was limited on Thursday and Friday. Blaine Gabbert starts for Mahomes under center.

The Chargers ruled out several key players for their final game of the season. Allen will miss another competition with his heel injury and Bosa is out with foot problems. Murray is doubtful whether he will be able to play after missing training all week with a shoulder injury.

The Eagles need a win and a loss or a draw from the Cowboys to win the NFC East. Philly won't have Smith or Slay in the regular-season finale, and Swift is questionable after being limited Friday by illness.

Banks, who is listed as doubtful, and Schmitz, who is questionable, were both limited participants on Thursday and Friday. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor was limited all week with a back injury but did not play.

  • Aries: CB Duke Shelley (hamstring) OUT; OG Joe Noteboom (foot), TE Tyler Higbee (shoulder), QB Matthew Stafford (NIR), RB Kyren Williams (NIR), WR Cooper Kupp (NIR), DL Aaron Donald (NIR), LB Ernest Jones (NIR) doubtful
  • 49ers: DE Arik Armstead (foot/knee), S Ji'Ayir Brown (knee), TE Ross Dwelley (ankle), S Tashaun Gipson (quad), RB Christian McCaffrey (calf), CB Ambry Thomas (hand) OUT; OG Jon Feliciano (back), WR Jauan Jennings (concussion), WR Danny Gray (shoulder), WR Ray-Ray McCloud (rib) QUESTIONABLE

It's the battle of the backups in The Bay, as the Rams and 49ers have multiple starters in preparation for the postseason. Carson Wentz faces Sam Darnold.

All the Cowboys need is a win to win the division. Running back Rico Dowdle is back for the Cowboys, who haven't ruled anyone out for the regular-season finale. Golston and Smith are the only players in question who did not practice on Friday.

The Commanders have ruled Allen out for the season with a knee injury, while Fuller also won't be on the roster. It's questionable whether Curl will be able to play after missing practice on Thursday and Friday with a quadriceps injury.

Morse is the only Bill with a game designation, as he missed Friday's practice due to an illness. Star quarterback Josh Allen (neck/right finger) was listed on the injury report but was a full participant all week.

Miami won't have Chubb or Howard in this battle for the AFC East crown, but that's to be expected. Mostert missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday due to knee and ankle injuries, but returned as a limited participant on Friday. The same goes for Waddle, who is dealing with an ankle injury. Both are officially questionable. The Dolphins' injury report contained some good news, as Jevon Holland is expected to return to the lineup after missing several games and no offensive lineman has been assigned a game designation. Austin Jackson, Robert Hunt, Liam Eichenberg, Lester Cotton and Terron Armstead were all listed on the injury report with varying ailments, but all will play.

The Victoriaville Tigres have secured the rights to defenseman Tristan Luneau.

They gave up a conditional fifth-round pick in the next Gatineau Olympics draft to acquire her.

The 19-year-old guard currently plays for the Anaheim Ducks, the team that selected him in the second round of the 2022 National Hockey League (NHL) Amateur Auction.

Luneau played seven games and collected three points with the California team. He also played six games for the San Diego Gulls of the American League.

The Ducks had loaned the Quebecer to Junior Team Canada for the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. However, due to a knee infection, Luneau was unable to take part in the tournament.

Multiple NFL teams are gathering information on Michigan39s Jim Harbaugh

Multiple NFL teams are gathering information on Michigan's Jim Harbaugh as a potential coach – NFL.com

Sources told NFL.com last month that Harbaugh, who is under contract with Michigan through 2026, received a 10-year, $125 million contract offer from the school, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in college football but would also oblige him not to take an NFL job for the 2024 season. If he does move to the NFL, Harbaugh wouldn't come cheap, with some top coaches' salaries now topping $17 million per year.

Many around the league believe Harbaugh's preferred landing spot would be the Chargers, who are looking to simultaneously search for a new coach and GM after firing Brandon Staley and Tom Telesco on Dec. 15. However, sources say Harbaugh is just one of many names I'm currently doing my homework. While there are some tough decisions to make with older, expensive players like Keenan Allen, Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa, the presence of 25-year-old quarterback Justin Herbert is a big reason why the LA job is attractive. The Chargers will also soon open a new $250 million training facility in El Segundo, California.

The Raiders fired Josh McDaniels and general manager David Ziegler on Oct. 31 and were impressed by interim coach Antonio Pierce, who scored a 4-4 upset win over the Chiefs on Christmas Day. Pierce is expected to interview for the full-time position. But owner Mark Davis has also been telling people for years that he believes he wants a big name at the top of the marquee in Las Vegas, and Harbaugh would certainly fit the bill. The Raiders are without a franchise quarterback and owe Jimmy Garoppolo another $11.25 million guaranteed in 2024. But they have an excellent stadium and training ground, an iconic brand and some superstar players. (Harbaugh also began his coaching career with the franchise as an assistant under Bill Callahan.)

The Panthers job is also currently vacant, but sources say it's unlikely Carolina will pursue Harbaugh. Other NFL head coaching positions, including in Washington, DC, could also open in the coming days and weeks.

In previous interviews, it was assumed that Harbaugh would only take a job that included hiring his preferred GM. Sources now say Harbaugh isn't thinking about that. He's much more flexible than in previous years, open to a variety of structures and acknowledging that the structure of NFL buildings has changed since he last coached in the league.

It also remains to be seen whether Harbaugh will be on the sidelines at the start of the 2024 season, regardless of level. Harbaugh served a school-imposed three-game suspension this season for alleged recruiting violations during the COVID-19 dead period and for failing to cooperate with investigators. In that case, he could be disciplined even further by the NCAA, as well as allegations against his program for an elaborate sign-stealing scheme. Sources told NFL.com in October that the NFL was unlikely to be a safe haven for Harbaugh and could enforce some or all of the discipline imposed by the NCAA. However, as of this writing, the NCAA has not yet ruled on either case and generally moves at a glacial pace on such matters.

NFL and NHL bets from our expert39s weekend Points from

NFL and NHL bets from our expert's weekend: Points from the Bills, the Cardinals and… the Blues?

With my NFL betting suggestions, we had a win and a loss last week. This brings our record to 10-2-1 since I joined The newspaper.

Let's head into the final week of the regular season with two more picks and a possible NHL surprise.

CHOOSE 1 NFL

Less than 50.5 points between the Bills and the Dolphins

First, on Tuesday afternoon I suggested that the Bills-Dolphins matchup scheduled for Sunday would be scored under 50.5 points (for those of you who have registered as members on mjpicks.com).

Since then, the recommended total score on sports betting sites has dropped to 48, 48.5 or 49 points. I still like a bet with fewer points, but of course not as much as when the total is set at 50.5.

This downward move shows that we made a good bet. Consistently crossing the “final line” (the line before kickoff) is critical to your long-term success.

If you consistently get better odds than before you started playing, you will make profits in the long run. It's guaranteed.

The Champion of the East

This game will determine the champion of the USA Eastern Section.

On one hand, you've probably noticed that Buffalo's offense hasn't been performing particularly well lately. The Bills scored 27 points against New England last week, but 20 of those points came from turnovers.

The previous week, Buffalo had disappointed by scoring 24 points against one of the worst defenses in the NFL, the Chargers. I'm not convinced they'll score 25-30 points against the Dolphins' good away defense on Sunday.

Then again, we all know how explosive Miami's offense can be. However, the Dolphins face a defensive unit that has the fourth-fewest points allowed in the league.

Miami is coming off a game in which they scored 19 points against Baltimore after scoring just 22 points against Dallas.

Given the importance of this game for both teams, they could play more conservatively to avoid making big mistakes.

In my opinion, there are a lot of signs that there is poor scoring in this game, so I'm betting it will score less than 50.5 points.

CHOOSE 2 NFL

Cardinals by +3 points

My second pick in the NFL is the Arizona Cardinals with a +3 point lead over the Seattle Seahawks.

Seattle lost control of its playoff fate when it was beaten by the Steelers last week. The Seahawks now have to beat the Cardinals and hope the Packers lose to the Bears at Lambeau Field.

Play spoilsport

Of course, the Seahawks will be motivated. However, the Cardinals would be more than happy to play spoilsport against a hated division rival.

Arizona got a great win against the Eagles. They looked dead after trailing 21-6 at halftime in Philadelphia, but they made an impressive comeback and won the game 35-31.

Could they face disappointment after such an emotional victory? I don't think so considering their rivalry with Seattle.

Don't expect Arizona to give up. I think they will either win the game or lose by a maximum of three points. That's why I'm betting +3 points on Jonathan Gannon's team against the Seahawks.

CHOOSE 3 NHL

Blues win against Hurricanes

I have a feeling the St. Louis Blues could pull off a big upset in the NHL on Saturday night in Carolina.

Again, I'm basing this primarily on the fatigue and travel element. The Hurricanes will have played a grueling game the day before in Washington. You must travel overnight to return home.

Rod Brind'Amour's team also had to travel to the Big Apple on January 2nd to face the Rangers.

For comparison, the Blues' only game since the start of 2024 was a home game on Thursday evening.

I can definitely imagine a liberation move from the Hurricanes players. They are about to play against group rivals, a more exciting game.

In short, I wouldn't bet my house on the Blues, but I think it might be interesting to try your luck on St. Louis with very high odds.

NFL Week 18 Saturday: Ravens vs. Steelers results, highlights, news, inactives and live updates – Yahoo Sports

The Steelers are entrusting their NFL playoff hopes to Mason Rudolph. (Joe Sargent/Getty Images)The Steelers are entrusting their NFL playoff hopes to Mason Rudolph. (Joe Sargent/Getty Images)

Mason Rudolph has been handed the keys as the Steelers' NFL playoff hopes hang in the balance.

The fourth-year veteran will make his third straight start for Pittsburgh in a crucial game against the rival Baltimore Ravens. Kenny Pickett is healthy enough to play but will be the backup.

The Steelers have multiple paths ahead of them in the postseason, each of which needs help. Their best bet is a win over the Ravens, which coupled with a loss by the Bills or Jaguars on Sunday would clinch a playoff spot.

The Ravens have secured the No. 1 seed in the AFC and have nothing to fear in terms of playoff positioning. But that has never stopped them from putting themselves in the exact same scenario and having a chance to dash their rivals' playoff hopes. The Ravens defeated the Steelers in the 2019 season finale after already earning the No. 1 seed.

Chicago Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard was badly hit during Friday's game against the Devils in New Jersey.

Entering the offensive zone, the very first pick in the last draft suffered a hard check from Brendan Smith. He then retreated to the locker room in pain while an altercation broke out on the ice.

Smith then responded by fighting Nick Foligno.

Bedard was not on the bench at the start of the second period. The “Hawks” then announced that the young prodigy would no longer be used in this duel.

“I obviously think he hit his head, but I'm not sure,” said Blackhawks head coach Luke Richardson, whose comments were reported by NHL.com.

“I just came back to the dressing room and all I heard was that everyone is going home tonight, everyone is fit to come home. We’ll take a look at it as soon as we get back.”

“[Les soigneurs] “They didn't say he suffered a concussion, but we'll wait until we get home before putting him through any necessary tests.”

The 18-year-old hockey player has hit the target 15 times and provided 18 assists for 33 points in 38 games so far in 2023-2024.

On Thursday, Bedard was selected to represent the Blackhawks in the All-Star Game.
