Stock futures gain as Wall Street faces 8-week losing streak

US stock index futures rose late Sunday after Wall Street plunged into its longest losing streak since 1932 last week.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average Futures YM00, +0.38% recently rose about 170 points, or 0.5%, while the S&P 500 Futures ES00, +0.40% and Nasdaq-100 Futures NQ00, +0.31% posted gains of nearly 1%. Meanwhile, crude oil prices CL.1, +0.44%, gained modestly in e-trading.

On Friday, the Dow DJIA was up +0.03%, up 8.77 points, or less than 0.1%, to close at 31,261.90, while the S&P 500 SPX was up +0.01%, up less than 1 point and at 3,901.36 closed almost unchanged after previously trading in bear market territory. The Nasdaq Composite COMP, -0.30%, fell 33.88 points, or 0.3%, to end at 11,354.62, the lowest close since November 3, 2020.

For the week, the Dow is down 2.9%, the S&P 500 is down 3.1% and the Nasdaq is down 3.8%. The Dow is down for the eighth straight week, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq are both down for seven straight weeks.

Investors are expecting a slew of key earnings reports this week, including Zoom Video Communications Inc. ZM, -1.32%, Nvidia Corp. NVDA, -2.51%, Costco Wholesale Corp. COST, -1.54% and Macy’s Inc. M, -6.20%.
